Are rape jokes ever okay?

Turns out The Simpsons and Family Guy creators think so.

Fox Network is refusing to comment on a rape joke that is set to appear in the crossover episode of The Simpsons and Family Guy that’s airing this Sunday in the US.

It’s supposed to be funny, yet not many people laughing.

Take a look:

The episode, which sees the Griffins from Family Guy travel to Springfield to meet the Simpson family was always going to be controversial.

But surely this was just too much?

Tim Winter, a spokesperson for The Parents Television Council in the US  told Huffington Post “I was blown out of my shoes when I saw the scene with the rape joke in it,” Winter said. “It really troubled me.”

According  to Seth McFarlane, the creator of Family Guy, the joke is “pretty funny” in context.

We’re not so sure, Seth.

WoW, that was an interesting take on it. The scene, it's not actually a joke, supports your view if you think about it. I guess it takes all sorts.

Yes - rape jokes can be ok/funny provided that the butt of the joke is not the act or the victim, but the perpetrator. This is pretty rare though.
This, however, isn't even a rape joke. The point of the line is to show that rape isn't funny - and why Stewie is so misguided and disturbed.
