The Block contestant reveals he was hospitalised.

A massive 7-kilo weight loss during the filming of The Block: Glasshouse left Simon Voss hospitalised once filming had finished.

Along with his brother, Shannon, 35, the pair both lost seven kilos due to the relentless hours and manual labour put into the competition.

“The day I finished I fell sick for two weeks. I had to go to hospital,” Simon told Daily Mail on Friday.

“Me and my brother, we’re both lean blokes, we didn’t have much to lose. I think if I lost anything else there would be nothing left of me.”

A bad sinus infection left the 28-year-old in hospital soon after filming ceased.

“I couldn’t eat because [the infection] affected all of my teeth. It went into the bones [of my mouth] and then I was having massive migraines.”

The busy schedule meant the brothers were only eating two meals a day, and weren’t eating breakfast until 2pm.

“We were going so hard [on The Block], you’re running on adrenaline nearly the whole time, your body’s pushing, pushing, pushing and as soon as you stop that’s when your immune system just goes and you get sick.”

Since filming finished, the plumber by trade and his brother have regained good health with Simon gaining four kilos and Shannon regaining all seven.

Meanwhile, in last night’s episode it was revealed that the brothers have been caught up in the ‘biggest cheating scandal’ The Block’s ever seen.

They allegedly placed a phone under the bed to record the judges’ conversation.

When the phone was found, judges Darren Palmer, Shayna Blaze and Neale Whitaker, along with host, Scotty Cam, were less than impressed.

“I don’t know if it’s cheating, but it’s definitely giving them something that everybody else doesn’t get. Scott delivers our judgements, recording them – that’s never been done on The Block before,” Darren said.

Simon told news.com.au that it was just a ‘harmless prank’ as they were frustrated about not getting enough constructive criticism from the judges.

“They spend an hour in each room and we only get to hear a two minute spill of what they think, we never even get to see them (the judges), so I wanted to know more of their feedback, but it was mainly to do something cheeky to see what they’re saying and then go from there.”

I really think the Block producers should provide a food service to their contestants to ensure they are well nourished for the entire series.

Fatigue kills 10 years ago

The whole phone fiasco looked very phoney to me. What I want to know is how do the producers allow the contestants to drive and operate machinery when they are so fatigued? I'm amazed no one has had a serious accident.
