The TV ad so utterly shocking it's been banned from screens until 9pm.

A chilling new ad in Ireland has been deemed so shocking, it’s been banned from airing on TV before 9pm.

The ad involves a sunny day, a group of school children and a reckless driver.

Take a look. But don’t say we didn’t warn you first – and we mean that quite seriously.

There’s no denying an ad as graphic as this is effective. But do you think it’s too much? Or is this what authorities need to do to make people slow down on the roads?

While the shock value is there I did hear somewhere, who knows where, that it is the shock value that wears off, so to speak and people become immune to it. I guess this is not an unreasonable theory, if you look at how graphic movies and tv have gotten over the year and realise that what would've shocked a generation ago, barely raises an eyebrow. I think, unfortunately that the only thing that works is the big stick approach. It would be nice if there was a carrot somewhere to dangle in front because some people just don't have that intrinsic sense of the need to behave on the road and an incentive may help them.

What is so shocking about that?

There's no blood and guts, no gore.

Is it because the reality of bad driving means kids get killed and maimed and you don't want to face that reality?

I thought it a good ad, but shocking? Nah, that's an over reaction.
