Senator tells Tony Abbott what everyone was thinking but was too scared to say in astonishing speech.

This is quite possibly the most interesting thing that has ever been said by a WA senator.

Ever.

In the wake of the upcoming WA by-election, Greens Senator Scott Ludlam has welcomed the Prime Minister to WA on his inevitable campaign tour.

It’s well worth a watch.

At 1:00 he reminds Abbott that he is “standing in a place where the drought never ended” and where “climate change and land clearing for fossil fuel combustion is a lived reality”.

At 1:20 he invites Abbott to leave his “excruciatingly boring” three word slogans at home.

At 1:30 he breaks down the stereotypes that exist about WA, and why Abbott is “reading [WA] wrong”.

At 2:09 he tells him that “waving [his] homophobia in other people’s faces” will dampen his chances of a friendly WA welcome.

At 2:38 we hear the phrase “awkward and kind of revolting”.

At 3:10 we hear about the history of the Greens, celebrating their 40 year anniversary this year.

At 4:20 we hear that Abbott’s defunding of the Perth light rail, but excessive funding of the Perth shark cull “has been noted”.

At 5:20 Ludlam reminds Abbott that people are keeping a tally of his choices between capitalism and the public interest.

At 5:36 Ludlam tells Abbott: “Every time you open your mouth, the Green vote goes up.”

At 6:00 his attention turns to Abbott’s views on the internet.

At 6:57 Ludlam delivers his zinger: “Prime Minister you are welcome to take your heartless, racist exploitation of people’s fears and ram it as far from Western Australia as your taxpayer-funded travel entitlements can take you.”

The Liberal Party DID NOT WIN the last election - Labor Lost it. Wake up to yourselves! Tony Abbott may think that he has a mandate to govern, but he is only there because the public at large was sick of the theatre. Well done Senator Ludlam. It has been along time since I have had such high regard for anything a politician has said. You have summed up Tony Abbott and his clowns beautifully. He has done nothing but tear apart any progress that has been made over the last decade and mask it with scare tactics and secrecy. There has been no progress. We need to look after what we have, not sell it to the highest bidder. I wish you well Senator Ludlam. We need more enlightened souls like yourself, who can go forward with their eyes wide open and make a real difference to the future of this country!

I voted for Tony Abbott and for the most part, I actually like his confrontational way of leadership. Things are being done. Things that were stated and promised in his campaign, things that I voted for.
As for the speech, I think this man is being childish and taking cheap low blows as part of a stunt to gain himself popularity and publicity.
