Samantha Armytage delaying trip to Rio in hope of having a baby.

Samantha Armytage has confirmed she is still contemplating whether or not she should attend the Rio Olympic Games in August, due to the possibility that she may one day fall pregnant.

The Daily Telegraph wrote earlier today that the Sunrise co-host was concerned about the possibility of contracting the Zika Virus in Rio.

“I rang our Seven team doctor and some specialist doctors in Sydney who I know and respect, so I have lots of different viewpoints,” Armytage said.

“However, no one can give a 100 per cent guarantee. Could you image if I was 40 and pregnant? How nervous and stressed I would be about all the things that could go wrong. And to add Zika to that.”

In an Instagram message posted today, Armytage confirmed she was still unsure about her travels to Rio.

“…If I was lucky enough to have a baby in the next fear years, I would never forgive myself if something went wrong, that was totally avoidable,” she wrote in the post.

“…I would NEVER put a (possible future) child of mine, at any risk.”

However, on Instagram she did take a swing at newspapers for publishing leaked information and implying she was “desperate”.

“I haven’t actually made a decision yet, but, as leaking to newspapers should be an Olympic sport for some, it’s out there prematurely!…I’m not ‘desperate’ in any area of my life, in fact I love my life…”

Armytage acknowledged she wasn’t the only one who had concerns about travelling to Rio, saying other women she knew were also conflicted about the decision.

“Like many female journos of a certain age contemplating Rio, Zika is a huge worry for me. And it’s not like I’m running the 100 metres or even hosting the opening ceremony…Sunrise would simply be at Copacabana Beach the week BEFORE the Olympics start. By August 5 we’d be at home in our own beds!

“I have offered to spend that week hosting the rest of the day’s news from our Sydney studio. And my bosses at 7 deserve a gold medal for being supportive of me.”

Armytage finished the post by saying, “I love sharing my personal fears with you all (Not!!!! Bloody hell)…but sometimes it’s better to put things on the record than to have people chatting.

“Now I’m going out to lunch! Happy Sunday to you all, Sam xxx”

Well said, Sam. Just enjoy your Sunday lunch, whatever you decide!

Fair call, Sam. Much easier to just go along with what the bosses at work want and not ruffle feathers, takes more guys to think about your life and what work decisions may mean for yourself now and in the future. I say well done and good luck!
