From Brexit to the US election, it’s been a year of bubble-bursting political upheaval, but one full of powerful moments, especially for women.
Some have been joyful, others have been heartbreaking — all have made us feel something and more importantly they’ve got us talking.

1.The woman who stood defiant in Baton Rouge.
In July, a photo of a young mother standing strong in front of heavily armed police on the streets of Baton Rouge, Louisana, went viral.
Ieshia Evans, 28, was one of more than 100 protesters who powerfully, and peacefully, demonstrated against the race-fuelled police violence plaguing America.
2. Hillary Clinton went make-up free after the losing the US election.
In her first public appearance following her shock loss to Donald Trump in the US election, Hillary Clinton looked markedly different.
Her choice to forgo make-up and her usual polished look quickly became an international talking point.
3. Kim Kardashian posted that selfie.
Love her or loathe her Kim Kardashian knows how to spark a conversation.
With only the words "When you're like I have nothing to wear LOL" beneath it, her now infamous nude selfie was liked almost two million times on Instagram and had feminists in-fighting for months afterwards.
4. Simone Biles won four gold medals at the Rio Olympics.
At the Rio Olympics in August, 19-year-old American gymnast Simone Biles made history by winning four gold medals.
She was dubbed the 'Michael Jordan of gymnastics' because of her gravity-defying talents.
5. Olympic gymnasts from North and South Korea took a selfie together.
Another poignant moment from the Rio Olympics was a candid snap of two gymnasts stopping to take a selfie during a women’s training session.
Lee Eun-ju was from South Korea while her competitor, Hong Un Jong, was from North Korea.
6. Beyoncé released Lemonade.
In April, Beyoncé dropped Lemonade.
It was a visual masterpiece and a powerful political statement on feminism and race.
7. Australia appointed our first female Chief Justice of the High Court.
Just last month, Susan Kiefel became the first female ever appointed to the highest judicial office in Australia.
8. Ellen DeGeneres was awarded a Presidential Medal of Freedom.
There was barely a dry eye in the house when outgoing US president Barack Obama awarded comedian Ellen DeGeneres with a Presidential Medal of Freedom in November.
He praised her for the courage it took to come out in the public eye more 20 years ago.
9. Dami Im killed it at Eurovision.
While Dami Im may not have won Eurovision, the former X Factor contestant came second, which is no mean feat.
10. And Samantha Armytage's underwear made the national news.
Media personality Samantha Armytage became headline news when The Daily Mail splashed a photo of her 'granny panties' on their homepage.
The picture of the Sunrise should never have been taken, but the flood of solidarity that followed it's publication hopefully won't be forgotten.
