Phoebe Burgess' experience at a "mum-ophobic" local cafe has made her "terrified".

Writer, Today Show guest and mum Phoebe Burgess has had an experience many new mums can relate to.

Posting on her Instagram Story, the wife of rugby league star Sam Burgess explained it was a “mum first”.

“Yesterday was the first time I’ve been asked to move/leave an empty cafe with a 3 week old baby asleep in her pram,” the TV personality wrote.

“Cheers to the mum-ophobic waiter who made me terrified to do it again. Imagine if I’d started feeding as planned…”

Burgess, who gave birth to daughter Poppy Alice in the final week of January, also named the cafe as Nourished Avalon, a whole food cafe in coastal New South Wales.

Speaking to Mamamia, the owner of Nourished Avalon, Patrick, said he was "absolutely horrified" by the incident - which coincidentally he was not there for as he was caring for his wife, who gave birth to their own newborn just days ago.

"There is absolutely no excuse for that kind of behaviour," he said. "I will publicly state that on behalf of my wife and myself that it is absolutely not acceptable and we welcome all mums and their children here."

An emergency staff meeting has been called at the cafe on Saturday afternoon, with the owner claiming, "if it is true, that person will no longer work for us - that is not our ethos at all."

This story is reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeealy low on detail as to what actually happened. I would be very interested to hear from the cafe as to their side of the story.

Damnit Zep! Now I'll read all your future comments hearing the Dr Cox voice in my head. Funny, but strangely disturbing :o)

I'd prefer it if it was in Turk's voice, but beggars can't be choosers!

This annoys me. Go directly to the cafe owner if you feel you were wronged. Something like this could really damage a small business. To splash it across social media when you (I assume; I just read she was a wag and therefore must) have a substantial following is just vindictive. It wouldn't stop me going there but I know a lot of her impressionable followers would. She writes 'move/leave' an empty cafe'. Which was it? Move or leave? Or did you just add leave for dramatic effect & more sympathy? These poor cafe owners have just had a baby thenselves which is stressful enough without having this piled on them as well. I'm just over these entitled socialites getting on their high horses over a tiny little inconvenience when they don't give a second thought to the damage they may cause.

Agree entirely. These "social media personalities" really need to take a long, hard look at themselves. They contribute nothing to society by way of their "job", whilst they impart a great deal of harm when they do this sort of thing.
