Three years after she disappeared, a man has been arrested for Carly McBride's murder.

A man has been arrested at a NSW Central Coast home over the murder of Hunter woman Carly McBride nearly three years ago.

The Belmont mother-of-two was 31 when she was reported missing in September 2014.

She was last seen in Muswellbrook, northwest of Newcastle, where she was visiting her three-year-old daughter at her ex-partner's home.

Two years later her remains were found at a property near Scone following a tip-off to police.

Police arrested a 39-year-old man at 8am on Monday at a San Remo home in relation to the murder.

Detectives have also executed a search warrant at the man's home in nearby Buff Point. The 39-year-old is being interviewed at Wyong Police Station.

After Ms McBride's remains were found in 2016, police searched three Hunter region properties including a storage shed in Scone, seizing several items including firearms, ammunition and prohibited weapons.

Police will address the media after midday.
