Choosing not to vaccinate is not “pro-choice”. It is pro-death.
This weekend across Australia, a series of protests are taking place against the Federal Government’s No Jab No Pay legislation, which comes into effect on January 1.
Under the new legislation, parents who don’t vaccinate their children will no longer be paid the $200-a-week childcare benefit, the $7500-a-year childcare rebate or the $726 Family Tax Benefit A annual supplement.
The rationale behind the legislation is to save lives — and it is already working, with a significant increase in conscientious objectors going for the incentive already.
But still the anti-vaccination fanatics insist on spreading their rhetoric, clogging up the streets with their placards and sprouting about their — frankly dangerous — ideas.
To those going, to those who still continue to stare down science, this is what we say to you:
Dear Rally Attendee,
So it’s your big weekend coming up. A day to express your “opinion”, a day to march for your “human rights” and your “choice.”
Being a reasonable, thoughtful type who has obviously considered all the facts, I am sure you have the time to pause for a few minutes as you paint your placard to read this.
After all – that’s what you are lobbying for isn’t it? Freedom of opinion? The right to information.
First up, let’s look at what you say to your supporters:
“Well this will be our second rally in Sydney. The first one was a huge success and we are gaining momentum with followers of this cause to tell the Government we are not happy with their decision to take our FREEDOM OF CHOICE away from us in relation to health care for our children. We will not be coerced into medicating our children and our families and we MUST send a strong message to the Government.
THIS RALLY IS ABOUT PRO CHOICE and HUMAN RIGHTS.
Your choices include:
– To vaccinate fully
– To vaccinate partially or according to a modified schedule of your choosing
– To not vaccinate at all
The choice you make after fully investigating the issue should be honoured and respected.
There should be no intimidation, coercion or ridicule when it comes to your health, or that of your family.”
Please, let me respond:
You say you are pro-choice.
Well here’s the thing. I don’t want you to have the choice to jeopardise my child’s health.
You should not have the “choice” to endanger my family. You should not have the choice to put my children at risk because of your misguided beliefs.
Choosing not to vaccinate is not pro-choice. It is pro-death.
This isn’t about “human rights”.
As a parent who vaccinated my children, I have the rights here.
I have the right to take my kids to preschool and know that they will not be at risk of contracting a serious or potentially life-threatening illness because of the conscientious objections of others. I have earned that right by doing my bit and vaccinating my kids.
When you don’t — you forgo your rights.
(Oh, don’t worry. You still have the right to stick to your fervent belief – you just won’t get the moolah.)
In a recent article for Parents Magazine Dr Neal Halsey, Director of the Institute for Vaccine Safety at Johns Hopkins University, says that community rights — like those of the benefits of herd immunity — outweigh your right.
“Each community has a right to maintain high levels of protection for those children who can’t be vaccinated,” Dr. Halsey says.
“The overwhelming picture is that vaccines are beneficial and keep children healthy. And that’s exactly what all of us want—parents, health-care providers, and the people who make the vaccines.”
That’s the right here. The right to stay alive.
You talk about how there should be “no ridicule or coercion”.
But yet, you ridicule your own families when you choose to believe mistruths. You choose to rehash fallacies that have been proven and proven time and time again to be just that, fallacies. You try and coerce the public into your distorted point of view.
Many anti-vaccination groups publically threaten and torment credible authors and scientists who speak out encouraging vaccinations.
To say that you are being coerced into having vaccines or missing out on your “rightful” payments is ridiculous.
The fact is, to be blunt, you earn no rights to our taxpayer dollars if you endanger our lives.
There is no “other side”.
There is no point “investigating the issue,” as you say. It has been investigated. The debate has been finalised.
On one hand you have science, centuries of research. And on the other you have — well, there is no other hand.
There is no “issue” to investigate.

We know you just love your kids. But I want you to know that using words like hoax and conspiracy and “big pharma” make you seem a little nutso.
Attending rallies based on falsities makes you seem a little ignorant.
And putting my children in danger makes you seem more than a little selfish.
Get your jab, or forfeit your pay. Simple.

If your child was vaccinated doesnt that give protection against disease, so who cares if they come into contact with disease they should be protected if they are vaccinated. You have no worries then. What your really saying is vaccination doesnt work or you wouldnt be so bothered about the unvaccinated.
Hello typical-uneducated-anti-vaxer Don't just roll your eyes and scroll down, actually read this response. I have a few simple points for you to consider before typing such nonsense again:
1) Vaccines are not 100% effective. For whatever reason, for a VERY SMALL fraction of people the vaccine doesn't actually work and so they can still catch the disease in question.
2) Very small children cannot be vaccinated from certain things as their systems are too young to deal with them. That's why we have vaccination schedules spread over school years. So babies can still catch the disease in question.
3) People suffering auto-immune diseases mean that their systems also can't cope with vaccines and even things like catching a common cold can be life threatening. So they can't be vaccinated and so can still catch the disease in question.
These 3 types of people rely of herd immunity - ie everyone else being immune to the disease and so unable to infect them.
You are just being a selfish idiot when you say that we don't have to worry if our children are vaccinated and yours aren't. Maybe we're decent human beings who actually car about the health of other people. Maybe we're worried about new born babies dying of whooping cough [see above "

Or maybe we're got a relative with leukemia and we actually give a damn that you and people like you have the potential to spread diseases throughout a public hospital where they HAVE to visit to get chemotherapy and cannot just live in a bubble to avoid dying from preventable diseases.
So in conclusion: think before you express that opinion again, and think before you put both your children and a lot of other innocent people's lives at risk because you continue to ignore FACTS.
Why don't you report some facts? Here are some facts on whooping cough and the vaccine. We have one photo of Riley, very sad by the way, but what about the deaths nobody gets to see? If we want to protect the children, the favour is to not vaccinate. If we want to protect our rights, the favour is for choice.

20 deaths from whooping cough vs 3000-4500 with permanent disability, hospitalization, life-threatening illness, or death. What the CDC or VAERS won't tell you is what vaccine caused it nor will they always allow the vaccine(s) to be blamed. "Because these problems occur so rarely, we can’t be sure whether they are caused by the vaccine or not." 3000-4500 per year does not seem so rare to me.

On an average over the last 25 years in the US, the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program has paid 155 claims per year. This is not the amount of claims, only the ones they deemed worthy to pay out. From 2000 to 2014 there were on average 20 deaths per year from Pertussis. "Approximately 30,000 VAERS reports are filed each year. About 85-90% of the reports describe mild side effects such as fever, arm soreness, and crying or mild irritability. The remaining reports are classified as serious, which means that the adverse event resulted in permanent disability, hospitalization, life-threatening illness, or death."
