Nicole Kidman has finally explained her bizarre Oscars clap.

Ahh, the 2017 Oscars.

It was a night consisting of the wrong movie title being called out as the winner of the Best Picture award, and Nicole Kidman clapping like a delighted circus seal waiting for a bucket of sardines to arrive.

And just in case you’ve forgotten it, please see below.

According to the 49-year-old Lion actress, her very expensive, very large Harry Winston jewels for the night were to blame.

“It was really awkward,” Kidman told radio hosts Kyle and Jackie O on Thursday.

“I was like, ‘I wanna clap, I don’t want to not be clapping’... that’d be worse, right? Like, ‘Why isn’t Nicole clapping?’" she continued.

“So, therefore, I’m clapping but it was really difficult because I had a huge ring on that was not mine — but it was absolutely gorgeous — and I was terrified of damaging it.”

During the breakfast interview, Kidman also discussed the unforgettable moment when the cast and crew of La La Land were incorrectly named as the winners of the Best Picture award.

“It was bizarre," the Big Little Lies star said. "I wasn’t sure what was going on."

Watching the award show's crew try to manage the situation from the front row, Kidman continued, "There was some shuffling of envelopes and people rushing onstage. I was like ‘what is going on?’”

Initially, Kidman said, she thought there was some kind of medical emergency taking place, but as she saw the faces of the La La Land crew drop, she began to realise what was happening.

Moments later, producer Jordan Horowitz took to the microphone and uttered the now famous line, "there's a mistake. Moonlight, you guys won Best Picture. This is not a joke."

"I saw people’s faces dropping; it was bizarre,” Kidman said finally.

Kinda makes sense, but seriously, surely doing the fingers-to-palm clap (rather than full hand-to-hand) would have been less awkward.
