The mic drop moment on last night’s Q&A in which panelist Van Badham shutdown media personality Steve Price for brushing her off as being “hysterical” has inspired a powerful social media movement.
The panelists entered a heated argument about domestic violence and cultural attitudes to the treatment of women, in which Price downplayed the remarks of Eddie McGuire and Sam Newman about drowning football journalist Caroline Wilson as “just jokes made by a bunch of blokes”.

As Guardian columnist Badham continued to point out the problem with Price’s position in tackling violence against women, he grew increasingly agitated.
Then came Price’s comment that drew appalled gasps from the audience: “I think you’re just being hysterical” — a textbook, sexist insult.
But Badham had a swift and resonating response: “It’s probably my ovaries making me do it, Steve.”
Boom tish. Comeback of the year.
And so was born the #myovariesmademe hashtag, which has been trending on Twitter in Australia in solidarity with Badham.

Labelling a woman who is passionate about her subject 'hysterical' is akin to labelling an assertive woman a bitch. These labels categorise and diminish. They are the lazy man's method of avoiding his own responsibilities and denying women his respect. What is he so afraid of?
In all fairness, the person asking the question to begin with, linked the tragic death oh his sister to domestic violence with Eddie McGuire's joke. Van Badham continued to emotionally load the issue by accusing Steve Price of being a person who would joke about domestic violence against women, which is totally unfair and an unwarranted slur. Van Badham needs to apologise to Steve Price for that.
But he kept banging on about how he was such great mates with those blokes....and if they are comfortable talking like that on national TV, could you imagine what the likes of Maguire and Newman would say in the comfort of their own homes, presumably in the company of their great mate, by his own admission, Price? He's the one making the association with them AND defending them...you hang with nufties you are a nufty by association.
The issue is that Eddie McGuire's joke had nothing to do with the murder of a person's sister in Perth a year ago and should never have been mentioned in the same sentence. For Van Badham to accuse Steve Price of making jokes about such severe domestic violence is appalling and something she needs to apologise for. Neither the show (Q&A) or any of the people involved did the issue of domestic violence any favours.
