Designers refuse to dress Melissa McCarthy. Idiot designers.

Well this is some stupid, unfair bullshit.

Hilarious, talented, excellent actress Melissa McCarthy has just said that high-profile designers refuse to dress her for events. Because of her size.

Never mind that she’s currently a bankable, successful star with guaranteed red carpet presence. Never mind that she could give any designer worldwide coverage any time she stepped out in their designs.

Melissa McCarthy doesn’t have Barbie proportions, so she’s basically ignored by the fashion houses dressing all of Hollywood.

As we said? Total. Bullshit.

Melissa told Redbook magazine:

“Two Oscars ago, I couldn’t find anybody to do a dress for me. I asked five or six designers—very high-level ones who make lots of dresses for people—and they all said no.”

She appears on the cover of Redbook this month, talking about how she keeps her marriage strong and why she’s started her own plus-size clothing line.

Here’s a little more of what she had to say on that topic:

I don’t understand why if you’re a certain size, designers think your taste level goes down and you have less money to spend. The quality and construction is often so bad. Finding a great t-shirt or a great cigarette pant in a good fabric is next to impossible. Plus-size clothes are often really cheap and either look young or incredibly old.

Melissa? If by some chance you’re listening… We think you’re brilliant. We will buy your clothes. We will narrow our eyes and wag our fingers in the general direction of any fashion designer stupid enough not to chase you down the street asking to dress you.

P.s. VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION YOU MAY NOT KNOW:

Melissa McCarthy is married to the man who played the air marshall she seduced in the movie Bridesmaids. Makes that sandwich porn scene they did together as the credits rolled a little bit less awkward now that we now that… Here’s evidence of their outrageous cuteness, via Twitter.

I've seen this article on a few sites now and I feel so badly for Melissa. The most common comment I've seen is "But maybe the designers didn't feel like they knew how to make a flattering dress for her because they're used to size 2's". As far as I'm concerned if a designer can't design a dress for a larger lady, they're not very good at their job. Particularly considering bridal designers can make incredibly flattering dresses for size 26 women for under $1000.

Whilst I see the point of this article plenty of ordinary people (with a little bit of money) get a pattern out of a book and pop down to their local dressmaker and get it made, lots of brides do this for instance, and whether they are young and slim or older and plump end up with a lovely dress. She would have that option too, yes she wouldn't be being dressed by the top designers but I just don't buy into this idea that they are that great anyway, I'm sure there is plenty of little old ladies out there who have been making clothes for years that are just as good as these designers. I say this because they are making a DRESS not designing The Eiffel Towel!

I realise there is talent involved in designing and making clothes but it's not like it's so complicated that you need to be a genius. I reserve my awe for someone who can design a beautiful building not someone who can put a few bits of fabric together.

Melissa and these other stars are giving these people too much power.
