This one little thing will completely change the way you watch tampon ads.

What if maxi pad ads used red liquid instead of blue?

That’s the age-old question, isn’t it? We all used to roll our eyes when that weird blue liquid (cordial? juice?) was poured from a test tube onto a pad to demonstrate ‘flow’ and ‘absorption’, but does anybody really want to see a more realistic red version used?

Members of the UCB comedy group decided to find out. This parody maxi pad commercial is just like a regular maxi pad commercial in every way except one…

And it makes a big (and slightly icky) freaking difference:

Too much?

These ads are uncomfortable....I actually hate them...I want to switch off or leave the room. We DO NOT NEED these frickin' ads...they are totally unnecessary. Seriously how have we survived prior to advertising where today nothing is left to the imagination. They don't give a toss about US...they are just trying to sell and make $. God I am so sick of women being used and abused in advertising. Leave something private and give women credence for actually knowing what they have to do. If it is so necessary to be SOOOO graphic with EVERYTHING...let's show someone pooping on toilet paper. RIDICULOUS!

I totally agree. Ditto for the tampon ads that give away all our secrets to guys...especially the wearing of your jacket around the waist when you're worried. Now they may be aware of something they may never have even given a second thought to, just to make us even more self-conscious! Thanks for that!

I've never understood this demand for red to be used so the ads will be more realistic, yes I get that we don't want to see girls in white rolling skate and deliriously happy they have their period, but why does it have to be hyper realistic and look like blood gross. And before everyone shouts me down about me shaming women or something, I'm yet to see anyone get worked up about toilet paper ads not being realistic enough because we don't get a close up of someone doing their business, and about how taking a dump is a beautiful natural process that needs to be portrayed more positively and realistically in the media. Seriously the entire world has become grosser now, so often TV shows and promos show people throwing up, usually when I'm trying to eat my dinner, why can't someone just run out of the room like TV characters used to do when I was a kid, does it really ad anything to a movie to see close up of someone barfing or dog poo (saw that on Aussie batchelor a show I watch for silly romantic escapism, if I wanted to watch something gross I would have watched CSI instead).
I get them some people are fine seeing poo, spew and blood, and I get that if it is the harrowing story of someone survive a concentration camp etc it may be appropriate but most of the time it is used in shows that you are just watching for a bit of excspism whilst having a snack or dinner and it puts me off my good and makes me feel yuck when I have enough unpleasantness in my day already that I'm trying to escape from.
So here's the thing even though some people don't mind the gross stuff I don't thing anyone would be bothered if it wasn't there, but there are people like me who will switch channels do for people who make ads TV shows etc can you please remember for every person who has an iron stomach there is someone else like me who doesn't, and in pretty sure even those people who are happy to see blood and other gore they will still buy your pads even if the liquid is still blue.
