Open Post: What's happening in your world?

Welcome to this week’s Open Post!

If you’re new to this thing, Open Post is a little weekly tradition where we all catch up and share what’s been going on in our lives – the good, the bad, and the “ADVICE NEEDED ASAP”. You can talk about anything and everything that is happening in your world; everything’s on the table for discussion here.

Got the gist?

Alright then, we’ll start.

Ain’t no party like a budget party.

No seriously, there is literally no other party at which you can eat pizza while live-tweeting the revelations of the Federal Budget, which is exactly what the Mamamia team did last night.

Our office party, instigated by our editor Jam (who, in case you missed it, loves Australian politics as much as the rest of us loved chowing down on Crust pizza for the evening), kicked off at about 6pm last night.

Jam was tweeting serious political commentary like this:

Meanwhile, Rosie was hilariously interpreting the evening’s events via a live twitter feed… Which started like this:

The contrast between the resulting commentary streams can be summarised by this excellent tweet:

On a more serious note, we’re feeling pretty low about some of the budget measures announced by Joe Hockey last night, like deregulation of uni fees, the introduction of co-payments for GP visits and the raising of the pension eligibility age to 70; Have a look at this post for a five-minute breakdown of exactly what those changes — and others — will entail.

And then let us know what you think in the comments section below; we’d love to hear what you think.

That’s enough from us. What’s happening in your world?

Stressing. I've got to open up the respite centre this morning and I don't have keys or know how to disarm the alarm! I'm hoping someone from the office is there early and can help me. Wish me luck. Btw Alchemy and Bec, were we meant to put up our cake? I ended up making it. Didn't take a very good photo because I was going to take a good one when it was on the table about to be eaten. And then they didn't put it out while we were there so I didn't even get to try it :( . I heard it was good though. Did you make it??

I did and it was shite. I have been baking since I was six years old and can count on one hand the disasters I have had and boy, this was one of them!!! Next cook-off please so I can wipe this from my memory.....

I love reading this post. It's the good, the bad, the happy and the sad - and we all share it. I have had a crappy two days. Or 4 months to be honest. Fiance and I have been having major issues, and we post poned our wedding until we fixed our 'fractures,' which I think was brave of us both and we are so happy we did that. He suggest counselling and that has been helping SO much. Things improving SO much and I am so grateful for that.

I got made redundant in the midst of this, but decided to take some time at home to (not get caught up in wedding organistion anymore) spend some time with myself and put some work into my relationship. Home by myself yesterday (fiance works away FIFO) and have a massive bleed over the floor and faint. Woke up, drive to hospital and discover I have miscarried. Had no idea i was pregnant. I was ok though, and no dramas with my health. Called fiance no answer as he cant have ph at work. Call after he finishes work and he's on the next plane home today am,

YES, this has been a terible few months, but I wanted to write that after yesterday, and hubby coming to be by my side immediately, things looking up with us - I am grateful that I have come out the 'other end.' I am actively looking for employment and the city I live in is very competitive with the two fields I am experienced in, but I am not going to give up. I now have a supportive and caring partner, which I believe I always have had, but I alwys picked the negative, tiny things. My positive outlook has helped me get through and made me realise that there is no point in worrying about things I cannot control, dont give up, and money isnt everything (helps though). I am also grateful for the fact I know that my body is capable of conceiving as I worry (Im 30) I wont be able to. I need to get a hobby also.
