Open Post: What's been happening in your world?

Welcome to Mamamia’s weekly Open Post. It’s the place where you can sit back and catch up with some mates, vent, share a story, offer advice, or just browse through what’s been going on in other Mamamia readers’ lives.

The best bit? There’s no judgement here. So grab a cup of tea, wind down, and join the conversation.

I’ll kick things off. I’m Aparna and I’m an Editorial Assistant here at Mamamia. Though every day here is a whole lot of fun and an intense learning experience, this week was extra awesome as we had another ‘lunch and learn’ session in the office.

Basically, every week or so, our fabulous boss Mia invites a journalist or media personality into Mamamia HQ, and lets the whole team soak up their wisdom and experience in a Q&A session. And this weeks guest? The lovely Ben Fordham.

He had the whole team captivated telling us about his life as a work experience kid who slowly rose through the ranks to become a renowned journalist and broadcaster.

Let’s just say it was media student heaven.

When I wasn’t busy making faces with the team and Ben, this week I’ve been trying to turn off my mobile/ Skype/ tablet/ all procrastination devices to do some study for my impending (OK, they start tomorrow) uni exams. But it’s all been in vain as I have just discovered the amazing show- ‘Orange Is The New Black’.

I kept hearing rave reviews about it, but just didn’t see the appeal of a show set in a women’s prison. Yet with all my usual shows on their season break, and the idea of having to do some serious study threatening me, I gave it a go. And wow, just wow. IT IS SO BRILLIANT.

I may or may not have just devoured 2 seasons over three nights…

That’s about it from me. How about you? Make sure to drop in and let us know below.

ABC 1 Documentary Casting Call

Does your child or children do more than three extra curricular activities a week? Are you always in the car ferrying them to activities?

ABC TV is developing a documentary that looks at the frantic pace of life in the modern family. We are looking at the phenomenon of how children are so busy and scheduled today compared to a generation ago. Production company 360 Degree Films is currently casting for Sydney-based families with one or more children under 17, including single parent households, who feel they are stuck in the ‘more-more-faster-faster’ family model thrust upon us these days. At least one parent must be willing to change the pace of their super-scheduled family life.

The program will look at what happens when global ambassador for the Slow Movement and advocate for calming the pace of family life, Carl Honoré, enters three Australian homes where gadgets rule and fast is the only speed. He unplugs the kids and parents. He tears up their jam-packed schedules. He serves up a recipe for making family life a journey or an adventure rather than a rat race.

Will slowing down make family life happier, healthier, richer and more rewarding? Or is there no turning back?

Carl’s slow coaching will last 4 weeks. Filming will take place over 6 weeks in October and November this year.

If you are a family who genuinely relates to this topic and would be interested in appearing in a documentary please contact Alex at familycasting@outlook.com.au

Tinder Whore 10 years ago

I know I am a bit late to the party but I think I've become a huge Tinder addict. I have been on dates with about three to four guys from there and after two months, they have all ended in rubbish. It is just that good men are hard to find and I'm not sure where they can be found. Help?!
