I'm now in my mid thirties and I have had severe acne up until recently. It's only been in the last couple of years that it settled down. Still get the odd few pimples during my period, but that's it. I do nothing different, I'd tried most things (not roaccutane, my brother had a tough time with that, got every side effect known to man. Wasn't keen), I think that some people are just prone to it no matter what they do.

This woman is brave! And beautiful.

When it comes to acne, it seems that every man and their dog consider themselves dermatologists. I had cystic acne, and did 2 rounds of roaccutane, used differin, numerous prescribed creams and washes, over the counter products, drug store products, antibiotics and the sort. My acne changed as I got older, which isn't an uncommon thing and is totally linked to genetics and hormones. The roaccuntane removed the acne from my cheeks and forehead, neck and back, but I was left with outbreaks around my mouth, chin and jawline.

I went to a different dermatologist when it seemed all I could do was go on roaccuntane again (and I didn't want to do that, for understandable reasons) and was prescribed aldacatone (spironolactone) which is a medication usually prescribed for kidney problems, heart attack and blood clots - but there had been tests that it improved adult-stage acne. I decided to take a trial after reading and researching the medication, the risks, the side-effects and so on. Two years later, my skin is amazing and I rarely get breakouts bigger than one or two small pimples. I would never ever condone rushing to the doctor and demanding to be put on aldacatone without thorough research - it should be something you and your doctor both agree to try, but it worked for me and I'm sure it could work you guys as well.

And as a beauty blogger myself with scars, large pores, hyperpigmentation and such, Em Ford is a huge huge huge role model for young girls who should be told, hey, it's okay to want to cover up your scars and you can, but they should also know that it's completely fine to not want to cover up as well - applying makeup can be exhausting and no one should ever be made to feel they're ugly or undesirable without makeup. Props to all those on roaccuntane, it can be hell.
