It’s Britney, bitch.

I can’t overstate this. The fact that there is no legal imperative for anyone to disclose even the most grotesque digital alteration of images is, to me, a disaster. And a travesty. Anyway. Britney has apparently authorised the release of the unre-touched images from her Candi’s campaign.

According to the Mirror:

First she was Unplugged – now it’s Britney Spears Untouched. The singer has refused to allow her latest ad campaign to be airbrushed.

Stunning Britney Spears, 28, insisted none of her shots for US-based fashion firm Candie’s should be digitally enhanced. But she agreed for re-touched versions to be released simultaneously – highlighting the pressure on women to look perfect.

In the “raw” pictures, bruises are visible on her calf, her thighs are larger and dimpled with cellulite, and dry skin is evident on her feet. In the airbrushed images her waist is slimmer and her legs flawless. A source said: “Britney is proud of her body – imperfections and all.”

If these unretouched images DO make it onto billboards and into magazines I will do another happy dance but even seeing them and circulating them and SHOWING them to any young girl in your life is important and helpful. Media literacy is key for the girls growing up who only ever see their idols in digitally altered fakery.

I think she looks fantastic, and should be admired... lets not forget she is a single mother of two and a sucessful career woman. I am surprised she even has time to work out and watch what she eats, if I am busy and under stress I just shove what I can when I can into my mouth!!

She looks pretty cute in the unretouched version, I think. I think her bottom is quite lovely pre-retouching, but I can see why it was done. However, I'd like to have my bruises permanently retouched so I'm OK with that too. :)

As a graphic designer, I'm all for covering things like bruises, dry skin or zits; but nothing else.
