If you’ve read the headlines about L’Wren Scott’s tragic death in the past 48 hours, you could be forgiven for thinking she was just Mick Jagger’s girlfriend. Every media outlet in the world has reduced her to as the ‘partner of Rolling Stones frontman’.
And yes, being in a relationship with Mick Jagger was one part of her life.
But L’Wren Scott was more than just Jagger’s girlfriend. She was a successful, elegant, smart, multi-dimensional woman.
The 49-year-old was a respected fashion designer and entrepreneur with her own business (although in dire financials straits at the time of her death with reports she was several million in debt). Her designs were favourites of stars such as Christina Hendricks and Oprah Winfrey, and she had dressed Michelle Obama, Sarah Jessica Parker, Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss for events.
Her unexpected death is a tragedy, and friends and family have spoken out since the loss, remembering a vibrant, beautiful person.
Mick Jagger was in Australia when the news broke, and the Rolling Stones have since postponed their Australasia tour. He posted a really moving tribute post, which you can read here.
Here are just a few more tributes, together that give L’Wren Scott the full, inspirational, important legacy she deserves.
Mick Jagger’s ex-wife, 68-year-old Bianca Jagger, also took to social media to pay her respects. On Twitter she said that the news left her “heartbroken”.
Heartbroken to learn of the loss of the lovely and talented L’Wren Scott. My thoughts and prayers are with her family. May she rest in peace

Vogue editor-in-chief and respected fashion figure, Anna Wintour, released a statement saying that:
I am deeply saddened by the loss of L’Wren Scott. L’Wren was a total perfectionist, someone who absolutely embodied everything her marvellous clothes stood for: strength of character combined with a confident and powerful style.
In person, L’Wren was always unbelievably generous, gracious, kind, and so much fun. Her old world American manners and charm were from another time, but her sensibility was always fiercely modern. We will all miss her.
A representative of Nicole Kidman, a close friend of L’Wren, reportedly released a statement which read:
Nicole and L’Wren were close friends for 25 years. She is heartbroken and in shock right now, and unable to say anything

Jo Wood, the former wife of the Rolling Stones’ guitarist Ronnie Wood, also expressed her regrets on Twitter, as did Wood’s daughter, Leah.
So shocked about L’wren .. Can’t believe it ..

Naomi Campbell, who was also a friend of L’Wren, paid tribute to the designer on WhoSay, writing: “I am deeply shocked and devastated by the news. L’Wren was someone I knew since I was 17. We travelled the world together many times. L’Wren was someone I always loved. She was the epitome of elegance and femininity yet still had a girlish quality. I will miss her honesty and I will miss her friendship. My heart goes out to Mick and all who loved her and were loved by her. May she Rest in Peace.”
Madonna also spoke out, to fashion website Women Wear Daily, paying tribute to L’Wren’s designs and generous soul. “This is a horrible and tragic loss. I’m so upset. I loved L’Wrens work and she was always so generous with me.”
Sarah Jessica Parker also paid tribute to the designer, noting that she didn’t know the depths of Scott’s depression as “we are all complex as human beings”.
L’wren Scott and Sarah Jessica Parker.“She was one who seemed to come naturally to joy. She was a joyous participant, a planner. She really enjoyed company and occasions. There was a delight to her that is hard to imagine extinguished.
She didn’t reveal another side to me but of course… we are all complex as human beings and I wouldn’t have claimed to be privy to that other part of late. She had discipline, skill and talent and the recognition was an enormous source of pride for her because she waited so long and worked so diligently (on her career).”
Other stars, who knew L’Wren Scott closely, fleetingly or not at all, also paid tribute to the designer.
Shocked and saddened by the passing of @lwrenscott … she was an amazing soul, talented artist and an unbelievably giving friend. RIP.

WOW that photo of her with Sarah Jessica Parker makes her look like a giant! Poor woman. It is SO sad when a life is cut short. Especially when the main problem is money :(
I assumed it was being reported through the Mick Jagger lens partly because he was in the country for a tour - gives it some context...I hadn't heard of her before.
