Lena Dunham has been rushed to hospital and will undergo surgery due to a ruptured ovarian cyst.
The Girls creator has spoken very publicly about her struggle with endometriosis. Her publicist has said that “Lena will be undergoing surgery at an undisclosed hospital. We thank you for you understanding and hope that Lena’s privacy will be respected.”
Just last month, Lena revealed that she wouldn’t attend press events for the new season of her show.
“I am currently going through a rough patch with the illness and my body (along with my amazing doctors) let me know, in no uncertain terms, that it’s time to rest,” she said.
Endometriosis affects about 1 in 10 women. It is a chronic condition, with no cure, that causes the tissue that lines the uterus to grow on the outside.
