Leila McKinnon’s response to comments about her new lisp is a lesson on how to handle criticism.

Thomething thtrange was going on with Leila McKinnon last night.

A Current Affair reporter McKinnon, 43, spoke with a never-before-heard lisp on the show.

Predictably, viewers needed to tell McKinnon about the lisp immediately.

She followed it up with another tweet applauding the theorists on their creativity, but confirming the lisp was caused by an orthodontist rather than a plastic surgeon:

Ecthellent work, McKinnon.

I must admit I noticed the lisp but mainly bevause at first I thought I was imaging and then when I realised I wasn't imagining it, I went full spectrum to wondering whether she had always had a lisp and I had never noticed it before, to thinking no she definitely has never had a lisp before, them I started worrying that maybe she had something wrong with her! So I am relieved to know it's just some dental work because I think she is lovely. She is actually a very good interviewer but unfortunately doesn't seem to get the opportunity to do much other than light weight. I remember seeing her fill in for someone some years ago in a serious interview setting and I remember thinking that it was one of the best interviews I had seen (not that I can remember what it was now!) Not taking away from Tracey Grimshaw though as she is also under-utilised, her recent Oprah interview was excellent you sensed they had a real rapport.

I'm glad she didn't get upset by all the attention, but did anyone think it was a little inappropriate for her to write that message ... essentially it IS making fun of people who have a lisp, and while she has a lisp (at the moment) from wearing braces, there are plenty of people out there struggling through life with this particular speech impediment due to physiological issues they can't really change.

Oh for Gawd sake! This automatic offence at everything! She is having a laugh at herself, can we please just try and have a sense of humour!

A friend of mine was making jokes about her broken leg last week, does this mean we should be outraged at her too because let's face it there are some people in the world who can't walk?

I know now how this cycle is going to be played out now, Leila will be hounded till she apologise, so eventually she will grovellingly apologise!

Well you know what offends me? People who apologise about things that they shouldn't apologise, so Leila don't you dare apologise, and if you do I will set up a hashtag (if I actually knew how to do that!) demanding you apologise to me for apologising!

I'm not outraged about it and I'm not usually one to jump on the outrage machine, but I did think it was strange that her mocking her lisp wasn't considered offensive by others ... given our society these days.

It was inappropriate, but I'm not outraged about it
