Lady Gaga actually BECAME David Bowie during her spectacular tribute at the Grammys.

It was tipped to be the highlight of the Grammys, and Lady Gaga did not disappoint.

The singer honoured the late singer David Bowie in an incredible performance that spanned decades of his work.

Gaga’s tribute included some of Bowie’s greatest hits — Space Oddity, Changes, Ziggy Stardust and Suffragette City. Impressively, the performance also included a transformation of the singer into David Bowie.

According to E, National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) president Neil Portnoy hinted before the show that there’s “some very exciting brand new technology that’s never been seen on television that will be a part of the segment.”

He added that Gaga was one of their first choices for the tribute, but they were initially unsure if she would agree to the performance.

Fortunately, Gaga confirmed, and only a day before her performance, revealed a new tattoo of David Bowie taken from the cover of his album Aladdin Sane.

Before Bowie’s death, Gaga spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the enormous impact the singer had on her life.

“When I fell in love with David Bowie, when I was living on the Lower East Side, I always felt that his glamour was something he was using to express a message to people that was very healing for their souls.”

She continued, “He is a true, true artist and I don’t know if I ever went, ‘Oh, I’m going to be that way like this,’ or if I arrived upon it slowly, realising it was my calling and that’s what drew me to him, I don’t know.”

I'm probably alone with this but I wasn't taken with Gaga's renditions of Bowie. So, I'm curious, if she was "one of the first choices" for the tribute, who were the others? In fact, who was the first choice?
[They shoulda played Nirvana's cover of Man Who Sold The World, at least once! And done whatever it took to get Jessica Lange to perform Life On Mars and Heroes again]

Don't kid yourselves, Gaga was paid by Intel for the performance
