Meet the dress Kim Kardashian rejected for the Met Gala.

Oh, what a glorious day.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala (or Met Gala for short) is upon us.

It’s a day keen fashion and celebrity watchers live for, and no one knows this more than our pal, Kim Kardashian.

Feeling nostalgic? Watch the most memorable Met Gala fashion moments below. Post continues after video.

Once again ole Kimmy has used the spectacle that is the Met Gala to self-indulge in what could have been, or rather, what she could have been in, at the event two years ago.

Let’s cast our minds back to 2014. The theme was Charles James: Beyond Fashion, which meant ‘highly structured aesthetic’ as James was known as ‘America’s First Couturier’. Kardashian was certain to prove her fashion chops after critics said she looked like ‘grandma’s wallpaper’ in her ’13 get up.

And the Kardashian breadwinner certainly proved her worth. Dolled up in a blue satin custom-made Lanvin dress. Yet it almost wasn't meant to be.

Writing on her website earlier today, Kardashian took a look back, "With the Met Gala now only a few hours away, I love looking back at previous years!"

"Working with Alber Elbaz (then of Lanvin) for my custom gown in 2014 was SUCH a pleasure."

The mum-of-two mentions her dress was originally made of "his amazing leather with metallic detailing, but we decided at the last minute to redo it in blue satin."

As you do.

The second-eldest Kardashian sister has been prepping for this year's Met Gala since midnight, posting to her Instagram accoutn just hours ago an image of the reality star standing with a team of stylists captioned "midnight Met prep".

Who know's what Kardashian will wear to this year's 'futuristic' theme. A Lanvin? A Balmain? An actual robot? Whatever it is, it will turn heads we're sure.
