Katherine Heigl has some very exciting baby news.

Actress and producer Katherine Heigl has some very exciting baby news, which she shared rather cryptically on her Instagram.

The 37-year-old posted an image of a sonogram, accompanied by the caption: ‘@joshbkelley and I have some news… go to thoseheavenlydays.com and I’ll tell you all about it.’

So obviously, we all went to thoseheavenlydays.com. Here, Heigl confirms she is expecting a baby boy in January.

The new arrival will be the third child of Heigl and her partner Josh Kelley, giving a little brother to their adopted daughters Nancy, 7, and Adalaide, 4.

In her blog post, Heigl, who is known for her role in Grey’s Anatomy, as well as Knocked Up and 27 Dresses, wrote the news was “totally unexpected but thrilling.”

“Naleigh and Adalaide are over the moon and can not wait to spoil their new sibling rotten and of course Josh and I are full of high hopes and bubbling anticipation.”

This will be Heigl’s first pregnancy, and she’s looking forward to the experience. “The whole pregnancy thing is new to me but the thrill of having a baby is not,” she said.

Katherine Heigl's family on Instagram.

“We’ve known for a while that we wanted to add to our family and frankly didn’t really care how we chose to do that. We were considering adoption again, fostering, or pregnancy if possible. Seeing as I have never been pregnant and as my OB/GYN reminded me last year, I’m of advanced maternal age, I wasn’t sure pregnancy was even in the cards for us. Turns out it was very much in the cards!”

Kelley also shared an image to Instagram of a tabloid story about his wife’s pregnancy. ‘Well I guess the cats out the bag!’ he wrote. ‘We’re so excited people!!! What an awesome journey!!!’

Heigl has been an interesting personality in Hollywood, attracting a great deal of negative attention. When she was released from her Grey’s Anatomy contract in 2009 citing the need for more family time, she show’s creator Shonda Rhimes seemed to suggest there was another reason for her leaving.

In discussing a separate project, Scandal, Rhimes said, “I don’t put up with bullshit or nasty people. I don’t have time for it…There are no Heigls in this situation.”

Ouch.

Since then, she’s been mocked for appearing in a series of commercials for Cat’s Pride, an American kitty litter company.

But Heigl appears to be profoundly excited about the next step. Congratulations!
