The gorgeous way Katherine Heigl revealed to her adopted daughters she was pregnant.

Katherine Heigl has shared the first photos of her baby boy, Joshua Bishop, who was born just before Christmas.

In an interview with PEOPLE magazine, the actress also shared the very special moment she shared with her two daughters – who are adopted – when she revealed to them she was expecting.

Heigl and her husband, Josh Kelley, waited until she was 12 weeks pregnant before sharing the news with eight-year-old Naleigh and Adalaide, 4.

“I was so relieved to get to share it,” the former Grey’s Anatomy star said, admitting that the news was a “little confusing” because of their unique family dynamic.

“[The girls were like], ‘I grew in your tummy?’ And I had to explain, ‘Well, you didn’t actually grow in my tummy, but your dad and I are your parents,’” she said.

Heigl’s own big sister was adopted from Korea before she was born, so she’s equipped with answers to any questions her girls might have about their family.

“My mother used to say…’It doesn’t matter how they come into your life. The moment they put that child into your arms – whether you just [gave birth] or whether they just arrived from Korea — they’re yours’,” she said.

Despite the confusion over where their new baby brother was coming from, the actress says her girls are unaware of “how different” their family looks.

“I don’t think that even factors into their consciousness at this point. It will as they get older, they’ll be like, ‘Wait a minute, we all look really different, and what does that mean for me?’

“We’re there to support them as parents do. It’s all about open communication and helping them access whatever they need to feel absolutely 100 percent secure in who they are.”
