Congratulations Kate Ellis.

Kate Ellis is expecting her first child.

The Adelaide MP and her radio-host and columnist husband David Penberthy, are due to have a baby in April.

Kate, 37, said that she hasn’t wanted to make a public fuss about her pregnancy, but it was bound to be revealed eventually. “It was going to be increasingly hard to hide,’’ she laughed

David, 45, who has two children from a previous marriage, is glad that his flexible hours would allow him to be a hands-on Dad.

“Kate was joking that she’s already got me trained at waking up in the middle of the night as a result of the radio job so I’m going to be well placed for early starts,’’ said the 5AA breakfast radio host, who has been married to Kate since February last year.

Kate, who occasionally writes for us here at Mamamia, has yet to make a plan for the length of her maternity leave or the travel commitments associated with being a senior MP.

“We’re acutely aware that our circumstances are much, much easier than those faced by the majority of new families so we’re confident that we’ll find a way through,’’ said Kate.

Congratulations to a gorgeous couple.

I do hope that this means that she'll be leaving politics.

Wow.. sexist, uncalled-for and downright bitter all rolled into one! Guaranteed that if it was a male politician's wife you wouldn't be braying for his resignation. And whatever your politics, the arrival of a new baby is a time for wishes of health and happiness to the expectant parents. I hope that you feel better getting that hideous statement off your chest.
