Karen Ristevski's husband is the "number one suspect" in the investigation into her death.

On April 18 2019, Borce Ristevski was sentenced to nine years in prison for the death of Karen Ristevski.

The husband of Melbourne woman Karen Ristevski is the “number one” suspect in the investigation into her death, his lawyer has claimed.

Rob Stary, of Stary Norton Halphen Criminal Lawyers, told Fairfax Media Borce Ristevski attended his offices this morning seeking advice on what the discovery of his wife’s body meant for the case.

Stary told the paper he had been consulting with Mr Ristevski ever since his wife vanished from their Avondale Heights home on June 29 last year.

“Obviously his wife has been found and there’s an autopsy report been completed, he wants to see what that could mean,” he said.

“It’s pretty clear police have him as their number one suspect.”

The 47-year-old mother's remains were found in bushland near Mount Macedon, north west of Melbourne, at 12:30pm Monday, putting an end to one of Australia's most high-profile missing person investigations.

Yet while the discovery has provided some semblance of closure to Ristevski's family, a close friend says it also marks the beginning of something much bigger - finding out who killed her.

“This is really just the start for the family. It’s going to be the worst ride of their lives,” the unidentified friend told News.com.au.

“This won’t go away quickly. It’s just the start; a can of worms has been opened.”

It's believed Mr Ristevski was among the last person to have seen his wife alive, before she reportedly set out on a walk to "clear her head" following a disagreement with him about finances.

News.com.au's source, reportedly a friend of Mrs Ristevski's since high school, told the outlet the Melbourne woman had not mentioned any personal struggles or that she had any concern for her life prior to her disappearance.

“She was one of those happy people, never had a bad word about anyone,” the friend said.

The thought that her body had been unceremoniously dumped in bushland between two logs has proved difficult for the friend to contemplate.

“Just left there, all through the winter and then the summer, left to deteriorate like an animal," the friend said. "It’s horrible, just horrible."

I find it disgustingly unfair that it is Muslims who repeatedly get a bad rap for mistreating women yet it is clear due to the plethora of domestic violence cases in this country that it is white men who have the problem. Not all white men you say? Yeah not all Muslims either. The sooner this country wakes up and addresses this, the sooner we can recognise and prevent domestic violence cases in this country.

The two issues shouldn't even be compared.
One is a cultural issue - women being imprisoned for being raped, women unable to leave their home without an escort, women unable to drive, to get an education, who get FGM, who are beaten and that's his right... As opposed to a few bad eggs that everyone else in society completely condemns. That's not to say that's how all Muslim countries or men are by the way.
Yes it is an issue here, absolutely and it needs to be stopped, which takes every one of us standing up & condemning such behaviour but the 2 are in completely different worlds.

Baidan Clay all over again !!!

Well, not just Baiden-Clay, it's the story of every woman who is or has been married and winds up murdered. In something like 90% of the cases where a woman is murdered, the person who killed her is her partner or former partner (I don't know the actual percentage, but it's a pretty overwhelming number).
