Jess Mauboy says she suffered a panic attack at the Melbourne Cup.

“It was crazy and I didn’t know what to do.”

Speculation has been rife as to why Jessica Mauboy failed to take the stage to sing at the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday.

Now, it has been revealed that the 26-year-old Australian singer suffered a panic attack moments before she was due to sing the National Anthem.

Speaking to News.com.au, Mauboy said:

The full tweet reads:

“Thank you to everyone for all the messages of concern, I am OK. I am so sorry I didn’t perform at the Melbourne Cup yesterday, I was really looking forward to it and of all the days for things to go wrong, unfortunately this was the one. I am so sorry to everyone for the disappointment xxxx JM”

Mauboy’s back up singer Nadia Aya performed in Mauboy’s place, allegedly with only 30 seconds to prepare.

Initially, reports suggested that Mauboy didn’t sign due to a conflict over the shoes she was wearing.

According to Daily Telegraph, Alan Jones on 2GB said that, “Mauboy refused to wear shoes supplied by the official race sponsor Myer.”

I have no idea what really happened whether she really did have a panic attack or whether or not this was just a convenient excuse for her being a diva, but considering that the officials have already said sonething along the lines of their was a miscommunication between the wardrobe people and she has also alluded to sonething similar saying these people were arguing then I can totally understand why she didn't go on. Just before a performer goes on this is a time for them to prepare and get mentally in the zone and try to calm down the nerves that most people have before they step out on stage and if someone is hassling them or a big argument has broken up just before she is supposed to sing then I think those people are highly unprofessional. If she felt rattled it may have affected her singing and then of course that could have detrimental effects on her career as people would say she wasn't a good singer etc. No wonder she didn't feel up to going on if people were hassling her about what shoes she was wearing 4 minutes before she due to go on!

The irony is these idiots didn't get a chance to have their clothes showcased because of their antics.

When you hear of there being a similar story with Hilary Swank that's when it sounds to me that the sponsors were the ones who were being the divas.

This kind of thing does open my eyes up to what goes on at these things, and why so many celebs where things that don't always suit them, I'm not talking about people who are badly dressed, I'm talking about the celebs who wear sonething that might look ok on soneone else but just doesn't suit them, eg the hat Hilary Swank wore wasn't hideous but it didn't suit her. She was probably required to wear it as part of her sponsor deal. Which makes me wonder who the underwear sponsor was for the lady who did the strip run at Oaks Day! Ha ha!

On another note I was on another website about this incident, and I couldn't believe the amount of racist vitriol against Jessica Mauboy, I know there is still some racism against aborigines in this country but if ninemsn is anything to go by it must be about 80% of people! I couldn't repeat the kind of things that were written about her. If people don't like her singing or whatever then they are entitled to hold that opinion but to call her a bloody.... and worse is just hideous. No wonder Miranda Tapsell was just about in tears over racism on the Verdict a few weeks ago, this has given me an insight into a horrible underbelly of racism that I knew existed but had assumed was in the minority.
