Sad news for Janet Jackson, just three months after giving birth to her first child.

Singer Janet Jackson and her husband, Qatari businessman Wissam Al Mana, have split, PEOPLE magazine confirms.

The youngest sibling of pop star Michael Jackson and her third husband welcomed their first child, son Eissa, in January.

The pair were married in 2012.

While their split is being reported as "amicable", one source told Page Six 50-year-old Janet felt her husband had become "too controlling" throughout her pregnancy.

"She had already allowed him to dictate her appearance and even the way she performed at concerts," the source said.

"It drove her crazy and she felt she was losing her fan base."

Al Mana is Jackson's third husband. She eloped with singer James DeBarge in 1984 before their union was annulled the following year. Her second marriage, to Rene Elizondo Jr., was not revealed to the public until he filed for divorce in 2000.

The singer first shared news of her pregnancy - which was long rumoured after she cancelled her world tour to "focus on her family" - with PEOPLE last October, saying the baby was "a blessing" for the couple.

In February, just one month after baby Eissa was born, a source said that Janet was "absolutely loving" her new role as a mother.

It is not yet known whether the couple had a prenuptial agreement in place, or whether Janet would be seeking spousal or child support in the split.
