One of these twins smoke. The other one doesn't. Can you guess who's who?

We all know smoking has terrible health consequences.

But these photos — used for research carried out at Case Western University in the US — offer a compelling visual demonstration of how smoking changes our features.

Take a look at each of these sets of identical twins and see if you can guess which is the smoker. We guessed every single one correctly, suggesting that long-term smoking ages faces in a pretty drastic way:

Answer: the twin on the right is the smoker.

Answer: the twin on the left is the smoker.

Answer: The twin on the right is the smoker.

Answer: The twin on the right is the smoker.

Answer: both are smokers, but the twin on the right has been smoking for 14 years longer than the twin on the left.

Answer: The twin on the right is the smoker.

Did you guess right? Would images like this put you off smoking forever?

I wonder if smoking was the only variable here? I wonder if people who smoke are also more inclined to make other unhealthy life choices like drinking a little bit more and if people who don't smoke are generally more health aware?
God I hope thats not read as an offensive stereotype just got me wondering.

TIRED AND EXHAUSTED GUEST 10 years ago

All teenagers should be taken on a tour through local hospitals to talk to the people suffering from smoking related illnesses like emphysema, copd and many others along with the other illnesses these sick smokers also get as a result of having emphysema.
My ex-partner suffers from all the above including others such as bronchitis, asthma, and now a new one to add to the list, diabetes! He is in hospital every 2-3 weeks with complications from emphysema and his health is in a slow decline. I honestly don't think he will live longer than about a year or two. He is on 16 medications a day. He often gets lung infections which require hospitalisation and hence more medication. His quality of life is extremely poor. He stopped smoking 6 years ago but his health is too far gone. Living with him was hell. I had to call an ambulance many times. I've lost count of the amount of times my daughter and I have sat beside his hospital bed. I've lost count of the amount of times he would wake during the night because he couldn't breathe and I would be so scared. I've lost count of the times he was doing something easy and simple such as carrying something or climbing stairs and gone blue in the face because he can't get oxygen then looking at my daughter's eyes and seeing the fear in them. He has said he would rather be dead than living through this hell that is his life. All of this because he became a smoker.
Please anyone who is a smoker or thinking about becoming one, PLEASE DON'T SMOKE! It directly affects the family as well as the smoker. And all you mothers out there who let their kids smoke, shame on you! Give them mature parental guidance, not money to buy them. PLEASE DON'T SMOKE!
