This 'human rainbow' is stunning

Skin colour is a facet of human diversity that has been assigned so much meaning – some would argue too much, others not enough.

But when you see our various shades tiled side-by-side, the result is simply breathtaking. This is the aim of Brazilian artist Angélica Dass, who is slowly cataloguing every possible human skin tone, using Pantone paint chips as a reference guide. She has named the project Humanæ. She explains on her website:

“Humanæ is a chromatic inventory, a project that reflects on the colors beyond the borders of our codes by referencing the PANTONE® color scheme.”

Every subject Angélica shoots is a volunteer, and the artist describes her project as “A work in progress”. So far, we love the results.
