As new autumn/winter trends transition from runways to our local stores, it can be easy to get caught up in the NEW.

But the thing with trends is that they, in my opinion, are becoming much more timeless. There has been a welcome shift from micro (and nano!) trends over the past few years as designers and brands draw inspiration from existing classics for this upcoming season.

Think denim, oversized silhouettes, tailored items and vintage sneakers (both the Onitsuka Tigers and Adidas Sambas are having a moment).

So before you hit add to cart, let's go through six new season looks you potentially already own.

1. Double denim.

We have moved on from the double denim disasters of the 2000s (looking at you Britney and Justin!) and have come out the other side with a much more refined and polished take on the trend.

The key to nailing this look this season is doing the exact opposite of how we used to style it.

Contrasting colours are in (white denim with dark blue denim, black with light blue), and distressed fabric and embellishments are out.

If you're planning on buying new this season, look for relaxed silhouettes and white stitching for a hint of detail.

2. Tailored items.

The suiting and tailored pieces are sticking around for winter and we can use the "sandwich method" for a fresh way to style them. Pair one tailored item (e.g. pants) with two casual pieces (e.g. a knit and sneakers) to balance the look. Warm, comfy and polished!

3. Coloured sneakers and flats.

The colours that are dominating this season are red and burgundy. It gives a great pop of interest when paired with classic winter shades like black, navy, tan and grey. But no need to rush out and buy the latest. You can still achieve the look with any coloured sneaker or shoe. 4. Oversized shirt.
