This 3-step process for removing red wine stains is utterly foolproof.

Nothing causes anxiety quite like drinking red wine while wearing white.

You’re sipping carefully, knowing that any drop spilled could result in a forever ruined top – not to mention an unsightly stain if it gets on your carpet.

When you think of impossible-to-get-out stains, red wine comes to mind. It seems no matter how much laundry detergent you use, a faint-yet-stubborn mark never seems to disappear.

However, there is a clever way to get rid of red wine marks.

Shannon Lush, co-author of cleaning bible ‘Spotless’ has the answer and you’ve probably got all the items you need in your kitchen already.

Lush, who has written several cleaning how-to guides with her friend Jennifer Flemming, has a simple three-step process for making wine stains disappear, and luckily for us, she’s shared it with ABC listeners.

Consider this your first-aid response to a spill:

1. Put a paper towel down to absorb it. Don't use soda water, she warns. This will only spread the stain further.

2. Sprinkle the stain with bicarb soda.

3. Sponge it out with white vinegar and voilà! It is gone.

Lush has been ABC's resident cleaning guru for several years, and knows her stuff when it comes to stains, smears and spills on any surface.

What stains do you find impossible to get out?

Nup. Immediately pour loads of cold water on it, really drench it. Then straight away blot it all up with towels (you'll probably need a few) Keep blotting until it is touch dry.
All gone! 😀

Best I've used is soaking up as much as possible with paper towel, covering with salt and leaving to absorb, vacuum up and then spray with Nifti then using paper towel to blot up again. You usually need to repeat the Nifti process a couple of times, but it works.
