This juice bar owner's food diary is so bizarre, even health bloggers can't cope.

 

This is…. something else.

I have to admit, sometimes, as ridiculous and unattainable though they may be, I do enjoy reading about the ‘day on a plate’ of people far healthier than me. I read through with a sense of admiration and a ping of jealously. But always with a reasonable side of ‘I’ll take my eggs on toast and spag bol thanks’.

May we present, courtesy of Elle Magazine, the daily food routine of juice bar founder and owner, Amanda Chantal Bacon.

The juice vendor to the stars, who spends her days peddling herbal teas and tonics to Hollywood’s A-list, is named after the most glorious (if a little carcinogenic) animal bi-product. But despite her tasty, tasty surname, there is not a trans-fat in sight when it comes to what she puts in her body.

Breakfast:

Bacon begins her day with Kundalini meditation and a “copper cup of silver needle and calendula tea.”

Like many working mums, Bacon has to find the time to eat in and around school drop offs. But rather than a Milo or a muffin, she taked her “morning chi drink” to go.

“It contains more than 25 grams of plant protein, thanks to vanilla mushroom protein and stone ground almond butter, and also has the super endocrine, brain, immunity, and libido- boosting powers of Brain Dust, cordyceps, reishi, maca, and Shilajit resin. I throw ho shou wu and pearl in as part of my beauty regime. I chase it with three quinton shots for mineralization and two lipospheric vitamin B-complex packets for energy.”

In case you’re wondering, a cordycep is a type of fungi (girl likes her mushies).

Morning Tea:

Bee pollen (yum) and 16 ounces of “unsweetened, strong green juice” which Bacon uses as a “alkalizer, hydrator, energizer, source of protein and calcium, and overall mood balancer.” She calls it ‘lazy’. Most would call it hard work. Along with that is a handful of activated cashews and a turmeric and grapefruit juice.

Lunch:

Bacon has either: “Zucchini ribbons with basil, pine nuts, sun-cured olives, and lemon, with green tea on the side,” or, “A nori roll with umeboshi paste, avocado, cultured sea vegetables, and pea sprouts.” Bacon calls this one her version of a taco. Umeboshi- Ume is a Japanese fruit, umeboshi may be loosely translated as ‘pickled plums’.

Afternoon tea:

 

“If I’m home around 3pm, I always reach for coconut yogurt with cardamom, dried figs, walnuts, and apricots from a weekend farm visit—and a chunk of raw dark chocolate.” Bacon ferments her yoghurt and makes bulk batches of chocolate herself. The chocolate is often “spiked” with medicinal herbs.

She also drinks a variety of beverages from her company Moon Juice (clang). On this particular day, her choice was “mint chip hemp milk with double servings of maca and sprouted brown rice protein.”

Maca– A root belonging to the radish family.

Dinner:

At her three-year-old son Rohan’s favourite restaurant.

“Seaweed salad with micro cilantro and daikon, and a delicate broth of mushrooms and herbs.”

After dinner:

“Almond milk and vanilla chia pudding” that she makes with her son, and some more home made chocolate, made with “reishi and Chaga mushroom, sprouted brown rice protein, and coconut oil.” She washes that down with some “heart tonic” (again. Moon Juice. Clang).

whatever happened to "everything in moderation"? I get that she is trying to set an example considering what she does for a living, but this is going too far. Food is there to be enjoyed. Living your life so strictly is just no fun. I believe in the 90/10 rule and I exercise every day. ANd I don't think about it too much. Simple.

I got to 'Brain dust' and couldn't read any further. Brain dust? Really? I accept that there are healthier options out there, but some of this stuff seems to have more hype than significant scientific evidence.
