Finally, a toy company realises not all girls want to be Disney Princesses.

We’ve all seen the endless and patronising advertisements for girls’ toys.

You know they’re for girls because EVERYTHING is pink. There are baby dolls, there are cute puppies, there are dress-ups, design-your-own hairclips, jewels you can stick on just about everything in your house and of course Disney Princesses.

How come girls don’t get any of the GOOD STUFF? Blocks. Lego. Remote-control cars.

Well, the time for that is over. The fine folks at this particular toy company have decided girls should be allowed to aspire to something that isn’t pinky, cutesy and baby. They’ve made products and an advertisement designed to inspire girls to careers in engineering, building and construction.

Their TV ad? Is all kinds of awesome. Take a look:

The toys are mainly pastels which is just reinforcing the stereotype. When I was a little girl I played with Lego and Tonka trucks. I agree, this is perpetuating the gender divide.

Bit angry with this article. While I agree there needs to be less gender divide with childrens toys, girls like cars and lego too and boys like kitchens and tea sets, they should come in any colour rather than either pink or blue. However, as a mum with a small son I have to say girls miss out on nothing!! in any shop there is three times as much girls clothes/toys/options then there is for boys!
