An eight-year-old NSW girl has died after a tree branch fell on her during a lunchtime break.
The incident reportedly occurred at Pitt Town Public School at around 1pm today.
According to news reports, a 50-year-old male is still trapped under the tree and two other students were being treated by paramedics and have been flown to Westmead Hospital.

My worst nightmare. I have been nervously watching all the dodgy looking gum trees around my daughters' school lately as they are dropping and shedding like crazy. It's only a matter of time. I know they are an Australian icon but large eucalypts should not be where people are!
Tragic, but sometimes, accidents happen, and it's not a particular person's or institution's fault. However, Gum trees are notorious for this - which is why, if camping, you should never camp under a gum tree (yes I know this is nothing to do with camping).
