BREAKING NEWS at 10.55am:
Good news in the search for missing Sydney eight-year old Wendy Nguyen – she has been found more than five kilometres from where she was last spotted.
Just after 10am police said they found Wendy at Moore Street in Liverpool.
A police spokeswoman said she will be reunited with her family as soon as she is checked by paramedics.
UPDATE: NSW police are desperately searching for an 8-year-old girl who went missing from her home in Bonnyrigg this morning.
Wendy Nguyen was last seen walking along Bishop Crescent at Bonnyrigg and heading towards Humphries Road about 5.30am today (Friday 24 January 2014).
She’s been described as being of Asian appearance, 140cm tall, average build with long black hair and it’s believed she might be wearing a yellow or pink top.
Police are particularly concerned for Wendy’s well-being because she has autism.
According to NSW Police, “Wendy has been known to frequent shopping centres and fast food outlets”.
They are urging anyone with information about this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
1. Captain Cook’s Cottage has been vandalised again.
Captain Cook’s Cottage, a feature of Melbourne’s Fitzroy Gardens, has been vandalised for the second year in a row in the lead up to Australia Day. The building has been spray painted with the message, “26th Jan, Australia’s Shame”.

The cottage was supposed to be a focal point of the City of Melbourne’s Australia Day celebrations, however it is unclear as to whether the cottage will be restored in time.
The cottage was built in 1775 in Yorkshire, and was Cook’s home when he was in England. It was transported to its current location in 1935.
2. Indian gang-rape
A horrific gang-rape has taken place in India as ‘punishment’ for a woman having an affair with a man of another religion. The 20-year old woman was gang-raped by 12 men on the orders of a village council in eastern India.
The council ordered the rape to be carried out after the 20-year-old woman was discovered with a man from another community
Police have arrested 12 people over the attack which was meted out after the woman’s parents said they could not pay the fine of 25,000 rupees (400 dollars) imposed by the council for having the affair.
3. Sydney rape
A 17-year old girl has been brutally raped after being forced off a Sydney train and into a disabled toilet at a train station.
The attack happened yesterday at 1pm at Strathfield train station. A man was arrested a short time later and was charged with sexual intercourse without consent.
4. Home-birth warning
A warning today that ‘home births are like letting your child not wear a seat-belt.
Writing in the Journal of Medical Ethics, Professor Julian Savulescu, from the faculty of philosophy at Oxford University, and obstetrician and gynaecologist Associate Professor Lachlan de Crespigny, of the University of Melbourne, said that when problems occur at home there can be a delay in transferring women to specialists.

5. Sydney Mother dead after dispute with ex-husband
A Sydney mother-of-three found dead on Wednesday was due in court to fight a legal battle with her estranged husband.
Comrie Cullen was forced to take out an apprehended violence order against her husband after their marriage split last October.
The SMH report that on Wednesday afternoon, a passer-by found Ms Cullen’s body in a car park at Taren Point. It is understood the 39-year-old, who was born in Northern Ireland, had her throat slashed.
When police arrived they allegedly found her ex-husband Christopher Cullen, in the mangroves nearby. He had cuts to his chest and wrists that police say were consistent with being self-inflicted.
He remains in St George Hospital under police guard.
6. Asylum Seekers
Indonesia believes Tony Abbott may be deliberately inflaming tensions between the two countries for political reasons.
Fairfax media report that comments by an Indonesian air force spokesman yesterday saying that ”Australia is reachable” by its warplanes were
taken out of context, with navy and air force personnel confirming there had been no change to routine monitoring of air and sea borders.
Meanwhile News Limited report that there has not been an asylum seeker boat arrival in five weeks – the first time in five years there has been such a quiet stretch.
7. Justin Bieber
Justin Bieber has been arrested for drag racing on a Miami Beach street.
According to police, he was driving a yellow Lamborghini while under the influence of marijuana, prescription pills and alcohol.
Beiber is reported have repeatedly asked police ‘what the fuck are you doing?” and “why did you stop me?”, before resisting arrest.
8. MP says dole recipients only care about themselves.
A Queensland MP, Ken O’Dowd, is under fire for accusing dole recipients of trying to “screw the system”, saying they are too self-interested to bother attending community meetings.
The Central Queensland News, claims the Abbott Government MP told a community meeting on Monday night in Capella, north-east Queensland: “You won’t get anyone on the dole coming to these sort of meetings, because they don’t care about the community, they care about themselves and how they can screw the system”.
9. Zara’s baby
Zara Phillips has named her baby Mia Grace.
The champion horse rider and her rugby-player husband Mike Tindall announced the name of their daughter on Thursday, with Tindall tweeting “For everyone who has asked what our daughters name, it’s Mia Grace Tindall.”
10. Shopping trolley injuries.
A report in the US has found that more than 24,000 children go to the emergency department each year because of injuries related to shopping carts.
The Clinical Pediatrics study shows most injuries are from falls, running into or falling over the cart, having the cart tip over, or having a body part trapped in the cart.
Researchers have called for the design of a shopping trolley to be changes with the seating area closer to the floor.
11. Killed baby to get a holiday
A maid in Dubai has confessed to killing her employers’ baby girl because she wanted a holiday.
The Dubai maid, in her 20s, confessed to the crime and told police she was upset after her employers denied her permission to take time off to visit her home country on holiday, reports Gulf News.
The baby girl’s parents returned home from work on Sunday to find their daughter dead in her cot. An autopsy revealed the girl had been suffocated to death.
12. Children with gay parents
A study has shown that children in same-sex families experience higher quality parenting and do as well emotionally, socially and educationally as those from heterosexual couple families.
An Australian Institute of Family Studies report points out that South Australia and Queensland are the only places where single people cannot adopt, which further excludes people in a committed same-sex relationship.
In Australia, about 11 per cent of gay men and 33 per cent of lesbians have children.
13. $600 back to school spend
A QLD public school is making headlines for asking parents to purchase an Ipad for their 4 and 5 year old prep students.
Parents of about 180 Prep and Year 1 students at Pimpama State School have been asked to provide an Ipad for the classroom.
The principal has told Quest Newspapers that families who could not afford iPads could make use of the school’s iPads.

Wait a few more decades when robots catch up and take many jobs. One article stated 47% of jobs in the U.S are at risk of automation. What do you do when you have nearly half the population unemployed? In the future most people will probably be on some form of welfare, a basic income guarantee unless you want extreme civil unrest. The transportation industry is in major risk with advancements in computer controlled vehicles, CNC machines are removing jobs in machining, etc quite fast.
Before with the industrial revolution we could find new jobs for us to do but when robots reach a level of being able to do many of the basic jobs then the ones that will be left will require quite a bit of intelligence....but sadly not all people are cut out for higher-intelligence jobs. Before they could use their physical labour as capital but in the future robots will be able to outcompete them, so what do we do for them?
On the flipside we may progress more into a Utopia, people would do arts, science, play more, spend more time with family n stress less.

I am trying to process how a community can believe that being with someone outside of the community is a terrible crime, but gang raping a woman is a perfectly legitimate action - so much so that it is actually demanded as a form of punishment. How can people get it so wrong.
I so desperately want to see India treat their women better, but hearing stories like this make it seem an impossible dream. How do you change such warped thinking???
