A definitive list of the funniest ways to announce you're pregnant.

Announcing your pregnancy to the people you love is almost as fun as getting pregnant itself. Almost. But, you know, with more clothes involved.

You may want all the attention, or you may want to go low key.

You may want to share the news with all 412 of your Facebook friends, or you may only be ready to tell your partner.

Maybe you’re keen to tell the world it’s a boy. Or a girl. Or maybe you have no idea at all.

Listen: Bec Judd gives Monique Bowley an intimate rundown of how she coped with her many pregnancies on Hello, Bump. Post continues…

There is absolutely no right or wrong when it comes to making public the fact that you’re expecting. It’s your information, your pregnancy, and your decision.

But if you want to have a bit of fun with your announcement (which, let’s be honest, why wouldn’t you?) here are some stupendous ideas that will send your loved ones into meltdown with their epic creativity and originality.

Because, let’s be honest. The ‘bun in the oven’ photo has reached peak mainstream…

If you want to get adventurous, we have some thoughts…

1. The Fortune Cookie

Perfect for: telling your parents.

The corners of the average fortune cookie should have a gap large enough for you to fish out the note inside, without breaking the cookie. (You can use tweezers if you’re struggling.)

Remove the note, and replace it with a message you’ve typed up and cut out.

Imagine the look on your parents’ faces when they crack a fortune cookie and read: Your future holds a granddaughter.

2. The Steamy Bathroom

Perfect for: telling your partner.

Have a shower. Preferably, a hot one. The steamier, the better.

Once you have all the surfaces nice and steamy, use your finger to write a cute little message on the shower door or mirror. As subtle or as in-your-face as you wish.

As the steam evaporates, the message will become invisible.

When your partner next comes and uses the bathroom, the message will reappear.

3. The Curated Photoshoot

Perfect for: the social media reveal.

The 'I'm pregnant' photoshoot doesn't have to be as cheesy and clichéd as you'd imagine.

Rather, it can be an image of taste and elegance — one you might choose to upload to Facebook, or even send in the mail to your closest friends and family.

For inspiration, here are some of the most fun pregnancy announcements Instagram photos Instagram has to offer. (Post continues after gallery.)

4. The Decorated Cake

Perfect for: telling the extended family (yours and your partner's).

Pre-order a cake from your local bakery. Cupcakes, even. You can more or less ask them to decorate it in any way you choose, so get creative.

A stork carrying a baby. Or writing. You can even get them to replicate your ultrasound in icing if that's the route you want to go down.

Wait until everyone is coming together for a big event. If they're not? Create an event. Family dinner at yours. Whatever. Come dessert time, reveal the cake. It might take a few seconds for everyone to understand what's just happened — but when it sinks in, I bet they'll be delighted. And, there's cake!

5. The Sand Sketch

Perfect for: telling your partner.

This one requires some forethought, but in saying that, it's magical if you manage to pull it off.

Drawing a message in the sand is the easy part. Hint: Make it short. And draw it bigger than you'd expect. The harder part is finding a vantage point to see it from above. And getting your partner there before the tide washes the message away.

Write the message in the sand, and simply 'stumble across it' while walking on the beach with your partner. They won't know what it says straight away.

Watch them follow the letters to slowly figure out the message. Their reaction will be priceless.

Congratulations!

I love watching pregnancy and gender announcement videos on youtube (so does my husband) they are amazing and are the part of youtube you didn't know you needed (also check out military homecomings). I especially love it when they don't get it, most often it is when there is a bun in the oven.. it is usually 30 seconds or so of them asking what is a bun doing in the oven before simultaneously screaming, crying and jumping up and down. IT IS AMAZING! There is also a few excellent videos where the parents didn't tell anyone they were having twins and then surprise everyone at the hospital with two babies.
