It’s been less than 24 hours since the ‘Orlando Pulse Massacre‘, where American-born Omar Mateen, 29, opened fire in a gay nightclub and mercilessly claimed at least 50 precious lives.
And now, the crazed gunman‘s father, Sediqque Mir Mateen, has addressed a heartbroken and shellshocked public about his son’s breathless depravity.
“I am really sorry and have expressed this to the people of the United States, especially in this holy month of Ramadan,” the elder Mateen said in a video he shared on his Facebook page. “What he has done has shocked me … I ask God for help and guidance.”

“I don’t know what has caused him to do this,” he said in the video. “I was not aware that he had hatred.”
Citing his son’s “dignified life” and that he was a “very good boy”, the father continued to explain his own disbelief at the recent tragedy. Speaking to NBC News, Mateen said he had long warned his son about the hatred bred by terrorism, but had not seen any recent changes in his behaviour that were concerning.
“I always [was] telling him that … the terrorists and terrorism are the enemy of the whole humanity.
“I wish he was alive. I could ask him one question… why did he do this?” he added. “He got enough attention from the family, good education, good life and with a good job. So I am as shocked as you are.”
“I am very angry and mad at him.”
According to officials, the mass murderer legally obtained an AR-15 style weapon within the last week. While reports on his attitudes towards gay people have been conflicting, his father told NBC he had recently become enraged after seeing two men kissing on the street.

The shooter's wife is now saying her husband was gay and used to visit the Pulse nightclub regularly. So, if the shooter was gay, it is a homophobic act to kill fellow gays? I also read, that he scoped out Disneyworld as his first choice to carry out a massacre.
Mamamia, why are you cherry-picking your reporting about his father? His father supports the Taliban, and also said in a statement that '"In this month of Ramadan, the gay and lesbian issue is something that God will punish," though "the servants of God shouldn't have anything to do with it."
He still believes homosexuals deserve punishment.
Its bizarre how many stories you dedicate to tearing apart the stanford rapist's parents (and rightfully so) and yet the only coverage of this terrorists father is one where you want us to empathise with him?

Too right!. This bloke has made very insulting comments and sees nothing wrong with the Taliban, hating gays. However, as with anything Islam we have to repeat the same narrative:
1) they are victims
2) their children are good
3) their religion gives them permission to behave a certain way
4) their religion is not responsible for crime
5) God apparently punishes everyone they don't like
The actual offender had a very long history of spreading hate against women, gays and black people. So much so, that his ex-colleagues had to report him. Don't tell me that daddy didn't know how much he hated certain people and that his RELIGION gave him the support to behave this way. All those around him knew about this disturbing behaviour, but dad apparently didn't.
We need to stop the double standards around this. Bad role models as parents is universal and religion should not be a off-limits area.
Yes....criticism of certain religions gets blocked here. It's very odd. There seems to be some sort of cognitive dissonance in the Western media that disallows such, and it's counterproductive when you can't call something for what it is. A person calling 911 to announce he is massacring innocents in the name of Daesh, whether ISIS know him or not, that's terrorism fuelled by religious fanaticism. So we should not be shut down for asking adherents of that religion to help us understand how and why he can invoke the name of their Holy Book to justify his motivations. If it was any other religion we would be, this one, not so much.
