Emma Freedman has a shiny new job.

Congratulations, Emma.

Radio and TV star Emma Freedman has been through a lot over the past year.

Now it’s been announced she has a shiny new job, and we couldn’t be happier for her.

Freedman, 26, is set to be the National Drive News Presenter with Southern Cross Austereo, the network announced last night.

Since January, Emma has been co-hosting The Scoopla Show with Jules Lund and Emma Freedman, broadcasting nationally from 6pm weeknights.

But her new role on the network will involve delivering national news inside the Hamish and Andy show and through other show appearances, including The Scoopla Show.

Since being dumped as weather presenter in December by Channel Nine’s Today show — a move that shocked her many fans — Emma has been seriously busy.

She most recently won Channel Seven’s Dancing with the Stars, becoming the first woman to win that title (and giant disco-ball trophy) since 2007.

Emma, who is also an ambassador for department store David Jones, confirmed the news of her new role in a statement.

“The Hit Network has been an incredible home for me over the past nine months and to be extending my role on air is very exciting. Hamish and Andy have been great buddies of mine for a long time, and I’m so excited to be reading the news in their show,” she said.

The Head of Hit Network Dave Cameron said he was “excited” to welcome Freedman aboard in the new on-air position.

“Emma’s profile and popularity is at an all-time high. She’s one of the brightest new stars in the radio industry,” he added.

While Freedman’s exact start date has not yet been revealed, the network says she will start “in a few weeks”.

Congratulations, Emma. We look forward to hearing more from you.

I feel sorry for those that lost their jobs so she could have a national spot. Isn't that similar to what evil channel 9 did to her? Isn't it funny how its reported differently this time.

Emma said in the media that she lay in bed crying for two days when she was dumped by Nine.
She should give a thought to the 5 journalists nationally who were made redundant so she
could take on this role. Geoff Fields has worked tin Sydney for 20 odd years apparently. I wonder if he is
in bed all sad at being dumped unceremoniously. Enjoy it Emma. I would have thought you would have
received TV offers as you have a bright and outgoing personality and look good.
