The first pictures of Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins are here and she looks utterly magical.

Oh, supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

The first pictures of Emily Blunt as the world’s most beloved nanny Mary Poppins are here, and there’s nothing atrocious about them.

It’s almost impossible to imagine anyone other than Julie Andrews in the iconic role, but gee willikers we can’t wait to see Blunt drift onto screens with an enchanted brolly in hand in Christmas 2018.

The 34-year-old actress looks every bit the part, from her blue straw hat to her neat brown curls.

Entertainment Weekly has also released a series of behind the scenes photos from the sequel to the classic 1964 musical, which picks up 25 years after the original.

Mary Poppins Returns will be set during the mid-1930s economic slump and based on other stories and characters contained within P. L. Travers’ six book series, upon which the cherished children’s film was based.

The first glimpse of a much more grown-up Jane and Michael Banks have also been released, with Michael now the father of three children of his own.

Their childhood home, Number 17 Cherry Tree Lane, will once again form the setting for the family’s new adventure.

“The bar is so high for this,” director Rob Marshall told Entertainment Weekly.

“But to be able to walk in the footsteps of this beautiful story about a woman who brings magic to this family that’s looking for wonder and hope and joy in their lives… I feel a great responsibility and reverence every day. We all feel it. We’re just lifting it up to get there with the right intentions behind it.”

Will you be seeing the Mary Poppins remake next year?

The thing with Mary Poppins, in my experience is you either love it or hate it. Unfortunately I am after a childhood of being dragged to see it by my obsessed parent, too many times, in the negative camp. The very thought of it turns my stomach. So No. But I hope those that love it enjoy it & it brings them as much joy as the original.

I hope it doesn't go the same way as the Bewitched remake....

The trauma (it really was atrocious wasn't it?)! I would hope Disney would be more careful with their own product...
