The couples we’ve been watching for the past four weeks are slowly disintegrating and we need some fresh blood, please.

So these "intruders" aren't unmatched couples, but simply adding more couples at a later point in time? fail to see the point of it, unless it's just to demonstrate the difference between when people first meet and after a period of time when they've got to know each other better.
