How to make scones with just three ingredients.

No butter. No milk. Nothing fancy.

So the other day Mamamia podcast host Monique Bowley and I were locked in a conversation about scone eating etiquette (specifically whether the cream or the jam goes on scone first) when the conversation turned to the best scone recipe.

Monz said you could make scones with just three ingredients (4 cups of self-raising flour, one can of lemonade and one tub of cream) and I didn’t believe her.

So she showed me.

(For the record, Monz is a former 4th place getter on Australia’s Greatest Bake Off)

There you have it. Scones with just three ingredients.

Hmmm I thought most scone recipes only have 3 ingredients?

Or just plain old SR flour, milk and butter

My thoughts exactly Shan, regular recipe only has 3 ingredients. Bit more effort to rub the flour in though.

so what's the sweetener? otherwise you've pretty much just made tasteless dough :-) the cream replaces the need for milk and butter and the lemonade sweetens it as well as giving them an awesome rise. doesn't work as well for gluten free scones however

I make them with the above mentioned ingredients with a pinch of salt and some lemon juice to sour. I personally don't like them sweet as the jam and cream is sweet enough. And everyone raves about my scones

cool...never thought of lemon juice as a sweetener...funny isn't it how there are so many different recipes for making a humble scone...and the ALL taste fabulous.....although the gluten free ones; not so much hahaha
