Do you regularly sleep in your makeup? Read this and you’ll never do it again.

Do you always take your makeup off before going to bed? How about after a couple of wines?

Of course you don’t.

And neither do we but after reading this it’s given us a skincare wake up call.

One woman donated her face to science by undergoing a skincare experiment to see exactly what happens if you don’t take your makeup off for 30 days. The result?

Clogged pores, dryness, irritation and the skin condition rosacea. Her skin reportedly aged 10 years by the end of that month: wrinkles were deeper and her skin tone was less even.

Anna Pursglove wasn’t allowed to use her usual cleanser but gave her face a “cursory wash in the shower each morning”and was required to reapply new make-up every day.

The writer’s daily makeup routine consisted of: Max Factor Facefinity foundation, Diorshow mascara, L’Oreal eyeliner, and Guerlain lipgloss.

Obviously, 30 days is excessive but the experiment showed by night three she had developed white cysts around her eyelashes and her skin “was so dry and taut, it felt like a mask.”

Pursglove consulted a dermatologist for post-experiment diagnosis who found her skin was biologically approximately a decade older than before she began the experiment.

“Long-term avoidance of cleansing while continuing to wear make-up could be detrimental to your skin in the long-run,” said dermatologist Dr Stefanie Williams.

‘The biggest issue is the accumulation of environmental pollutants, which drive the generation of free radicals. These contribute to the breakdown of collagen and elastin, the structures that underpin youthful skin.”

Pass us the cleanser.

And since we’re all thinking about washing our faces tonight, here are our five favourite cleansing products:

1. Josie Maran Cleansing Wipes $15.84.

(Don’t just rely on skincare wipes to take off your makeup read why here.)

2. Clarins Take The Day Off Makeup Remover For Lids, Lashes & Lips $35

Washing your face is one of the most important things you can do for your skin in order to keep it healthy. Even if you don't wear makeup, not cleansing can mean more oxidative stress for your skin! http://beautybeesadventures...

This isn't a fair comparison because they have changed the white balance of the photos! The first photo is blue and the second photo is really yellow and this makes her skin look terrible. You notice this most in her hair colour. Dodgy!

I agree, her 'before' photo should be make up free also so you can actually see what her skin looks like
