Dear 2012....

BY MIA FREEDMAN

Dear 2012,

You really kicked my arse. There’s no other way to put it. As you finished up your work and you prepared to make way for 2013, I kinda limped to the finish line, I’ll be honest.

Professionally, you threw some massive challenges right up into my face. Launching ivillage.com.au, losing my newspaper column, hosting the Prime Minister at Mamamia HQ twice in the space of a couple of months, enduring some pretty unpleasant attacks on social media which led me to take an indefinite break from Twitter and making some major staff changes to the Mamamia editorial team.

Personally, I have watched my eldest child complete the transition into a full blown teenager, my middle child blossom into a schoolgirl and my youngest lose almost all traces of his babyhood. I feel mixed about this. Immensely proud and grateful but also aware that with any evolution there is some sense of loss as well as gain.

But look, I don’t want to be ungrateful, 2012. I am keenly aware that every year is a blessing – as kumbaya as that sounds, it’s also true. As a friend of mine says, anyone who bitches about getting older needs to go visit a cancer ward.

So. Goodbye 2012. Thanks for the memories, the challenges and the blessings.
2013, I’m almost ready.

Mia xxxx

Thanks Mia for your honest stories and comments in the Sunday Mail. We missed you this Sunday, so went on your website to find out why ! We won't won't need to read "U on Sunday" in the Sunday Mail (Brisbane) anymore, We have now joined to receive your newsletter. Haven't seen you on the Today Show either - what is wrong with these people? There are others I would like to see taken off rather than you. All the best to you and your family. You'll strike back !!

2012 was an amazing year! Sure it had its moments, I fought with my partner or I just felt generally down on life, but those were few and far between.

I was given the oppertunity to act in more senior roles at work to expand my knowledge.

My fiance and I moved in to our own place.

My partner proposed

I fell pregnant

I had a misscarraige

I went to America and Canada for Xmas/New years with my family and partner

I kept fit and healthy all year, and kept the 10kg I lost last year off :)

They would be the most important things that happened this year. I hope 2013 brings health and happiness to myself and my family, and most importantly, I wish with everything within me that I fall pregnant and remain pregnant for the entire 9 months. I want nothing more to hold my own baby in my arms in 2013.
