You're going to keep hearing the name Darcy Vescio. This is why.

Last Friday night, in front of a packed out stadium, Carlton downed Collingwood in the first game of the inaugural AFL Women’s competition.

More than 24,000 people lined the stands and stairwells, thousands more were turned away and one woman led her team to a historic victory.

Carlton full-forward Darcy Vescio kicked four of her side’s seven goals and everyone agreed: a star was born.

And she’s bloody delightful to boot.

By day, Vescio is a graphic designer at Carlton HQ and a Pokemon Go fan in her spare time, just FYI.

It’s not hard to see why fans are loving her.

“[After the game] we just hung out in the rooms and tried to soak it all in, you’ll only play the first ever AFL women’s game once.

“It was pretty rough, heaps of big clashes, I’m pretty sore this morning. But that’s footy.”

Carlton will be back at Ikon Park on Saturday afternoon for Round Two when they take on the GWS Giants at 3.35pm.

It looks to be a huge day of footy, with the Melbourne and Collingwood clash now set to follow in a double-header.

Get down early and make sure you keep an eye out for #3 in the navy blue.

As a Carlton fan I absolutely love Darcy! Every time she got near the ball the crowd went nuts. Can't wait to see her in action again later today!
