This dad has a message for every man (or woman) who may one day date his daughter.

And it’s a message that most parents have probably wished they could say to the potential partners of their kids.

Jesse Parent delivered his slightly terrifying and tongue-in-cheek diatribe at the Coaches Slam at the 2014 College Unions Poetry Slam Invitational – but his performance has since been viewed by over a million people on YouTube.

But really, it’s still just a poem about love:

“I have been teaching her love all of her life, and all that I ask is that you continue the lesson. Love her, befriend her, protect her. Be there when I can’t. And when my body gives up to the grave let the grin that eternity carves into my face be a reflection of the peace that your love brings to her, and we should get along just fine.”

Have you ever wanted to deliver a message like this to someone?

I just cannot believe Mamamia is endorsing this violent, misogynist diatribe, and on the same page as Jill Meagher's widower is calling for an end to masculine violence! Sheesh Mamamia, you got this off groupthink - you should read the comments there for consensus amongst with-it young women, before you decide your approach!

Yep, a little OTT (why do all fathers think their daughters are priceless princesses who will never do any wrong?) but don't worry….when those daughters marry one of my perfect sons (who of course, never do any wrong), I will get them back with that slow drip torture peculiar to the mother of the man that you end up marrying…..

I assume you're comment is tongue in cheek, but in some instances MILs can be absolutely awful to their daughter in laws and sadly I have one of them. Ironically my ex's mother is staying with us atm, as our daughter has just made me a MIL this weekend. I wish I could swap MILs.
So needless to say, I don't really find your comment funny.
