Batman visits Colorado shooting victims

The star of the new Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises, Christian Bale, has turned up in Aurora to visit the victims of last week’s shooting.

There’s been a social media campaign going since the tragedy, which claimed 12 lives and left 58 injured, calling for the Batman star to travel to Colorado and visit the victims in hospital while wearing his Batman suit.

In a Facebook post, someone wrote that children needed to know “heroes can be real too, not just the bad guys”

The Los Angeles Times reports:

Bale, who is filming Terrence Malick‘s film “Knight of Cups” in Los Angeles, turned up Tuesday at the Medical Center of Aurora, visiting and chatting with survivors as well as posing for photos.

“The patients were really happy to meet Bale,” the hospital’s interim president, Bill Voloch, told the Denver Post. “They are obviously big fans of his movies. They wanted to see Batman and were really pleased to see Bale.”

The actor and his wife, Sibi Blazic, enjoyed bedside conversation with patients including Carey Rottman as well as interactions with medical staff and first responders.

Anne Hathaway who also stars in the movie, has expressed her condolences. She said: “My heart aches and breaks for the lives taken and altered by this unfathomably senseless act. I am at a loss for words how to express my sorrow. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.”

I'm just glad he didn't do what someone on Facebook was campaigning for - turn up dressed as Batman. That was one of the worst ideas I've heard in a very long time. Can you imagine anything worse?

Also, I hear Warner is donating money to a fund to help those affected.

I know right! Turning up in a masked suit....could you be any more insensitive?
