A toddler has died after choking on a grape at Pizza Hut.

A toddler has lost his fight for life after choking on a grape during a family dinner.

Toddler Jacob Jenkins, of Hartlepool in the UK, was having dinner at a Pizza Hut restaurant with parents Abigail Wilson and David Jenkins when the tragic accident occurred.

The two-year-old had been in a coma in hospital since last Friday, but he passed away earlier this week.

After he started choking on the fruit, restaurant first aiders gave medical assistance before an air ambulance arrived to transport him to hospital.

His frantic parents originally told The Mirror that they believed he would recover.

"Anyone who knows Jacob knows he is a strong, determined, stubborn little boy and I hope he uses these qualities to pull through for us," they said.

But tragically, their little boy passed away at the same time his community was holding a balloon release ceremony for him.

Ms Wilson told the Hartlepool Mail that nothing more could be done to save her son.

“Jacob grew his angel wings at 7pm as people let off their balloons. We chose this time to let him go as we knew everyone would be thinking of him and have him in their thoughts," she said.

“There was nothing we could do. Jacob died in mine and his dad’s arms with his family by his side. We then went outside and released our own balloons.”

Friends have set up a Go Fund Me page to help the grieving family, already raising almost £8,000.

Our thoughts are with little Jacob's friends and family members.
