Chloe Grace Moretz might just have made herself a powerful enemy.
She was invited to join Taylor Swift’s posse of hotties, and she declined. She said no to the most powerful woman in music. Is she crazy?
Moretz, 19, is fast friends with Selena Gomez, a singer and actress you might know from such squads as Taylor Swift’s.
Through Gomez, the invitation was extended.
Moretz is seemingly aware of the danger in which she has placed herself, as illustrated by this exchange with a journalist in this Complex interview.
“Do you know Taylor Swift?”
“Yes,” she says, already aware of where I’m going with this. “Did she, you know, ask you to join her squad?”
“Yes,” she repeats carefully, nothing more.
Ooooh wee!
The interview persisted with this line of questioning but Moretz wouldn’t bite, except to say, “She’s a very talented person.”
She did, however, decry the idea of “squadism”. “They appropriate exclusivity. They’re cliques!” she said.
Swift is renowned for the “squad” of women — almost all of whom are impossibly tall and attractive — who accompany her to events and award shows. There are models (Karlie Kloss, Martha Hunt, Gigi Hadid), singers (Lorde, Gomez), and cats (Olivia Benson, Meredith Grey).
Moretz is renowned for saying the C-word in Kick Ass as a 12-year-old. Hope she still remembers some of those moves!
Swift and Moretz will never send each other texts like this…

Good for her. She's obviously smart enough to realise that being part of someone's friend collection isn't a genuine friendship at all. I'm glad she can see this offer for what it is - just another attempt to prove how 'popular' Taylor considers herself to be.
