Almost seven months after becoming a brunette, The Project‘s Carrie Bickmore has shared that her hair colour has been a hot topic for the bookies, with betting agencies creating odds about when she would return to blonde.
Because ICYMI, the hair of our national television presenters is a very big deal, people. A very big deal indeed.

Sharing the bizarre story with fellow panelists Peter Helliar, Waleed Aly and Rachel Corbett, Bickmore said, “Before Christmas, there were [odds on] when would I dye my hair back blonde.”
The 36-year-old continued, “If I did it before Christmas the odds were so good I thought if I could do it before Christmas I could pocket some sweet cash.”
The mother-of-two then added laughing, "It's highly illegal, so I couldn't, but you know, it was an option."
After a lifetime of being a blonde, Bickmore changed her hair to a dark brown in August as part of her partnership with Garnier.
“I’ve had the same colour hair for 35 years and I was bored and I thought, ‘Why not?'” Bickmore said following the big reveal. “I’m giving it a whirl!”

The change wasn't without controversy and comedy, however, even Bickmore's own grandmother didn't recognise her.
“Nan doesn’t like my hair,” Bickmore told her co-hosts in October.
“Nan watched the TV for two weeks and thought I’d gone on holiday, and they’d found a girl with … different coloured hair that sounded like me to fill in for me.”
Now, less than a year after the change, Bickmore seems to be returning to her blonde roots, with her hair looking noticeably lighter. Blonde, brunette, red, black or blue, though, we'd love Bickmore and her hair any old shade.

Changing her hair colour wouldn't have been illegal, betting on it herself would have been.
Why is it illegal? I know you can't bet on a football game if you're involved in it, but something like this wouldn't come under that kind of framework... if they want to create betting based on something as stupid as this, I don't see why legally she couldn't take advantage of that to make a few bucks.
It's The Project, spreading urban legends is their stock in trade. Of course it's not illegal for Carrie Bickmore to change her hair colour; it's not even illegal for Carrie to bet on it and then do it. If a betting agency is dumb enough to take bets on something which can be controlled, that's their problem.
Generally they only take extremely small bets on things like this, because they're really only offering the odds for publicity. It's like when they offer odds on how long the National Anthem will go at the Super Bowl, or which songs Lady Gaga will sing. They know they can lose money on that kind of bet to insiders, and they don't care.
Me too. Ms Hall's piece seems a silly, no point to it article. She just says that Bickmore's dying her hair would be illegal, but not what law would be broken. It's plain that organising a way to make money on betting on her hair from insider information would be a crime but Bickmore's not going anywhere near that.
Maybe it's got to do with being contracted to Garnier?
